You could say this past weekend was full of “non-surprises.”
Beginning on Sunday, Iran launched multiple rounds of ballistic missiles at Israel. This marked the first such attack since the ceasefire came into effect last April—but it’s not as though the regime had not already broken the agreement time and time again. And yes, after setting the Middle East back on fire, Iran threatened to launch even more attacks.
It’s a very big development, no doubt, but are you really surprised?
An Absolutely Massive Bombing Campaign That Could Have Sparked All-Out War in the Middle East Was Called Off at Literally the Last Minute
We were just minutes away from all-out war in the Middle East, and most people that are living in the western world have no idea what just happened. After hitting Iran with two waves of strikes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered an absolutely massive third wave, but he called it off after a last minute phone call with President Trump. If that massive third wave of strikes had gone ahead, the Iranians would have definitely responded in a major way, and we would be talking about “all-out war in the Middle East” right now.
Let me briefly review how we got to this point.
Hezbollah has been firing hundreds and hundreds of rockets into Israel, and so on Sunday the Israelis conducted airstrikes in southern Beirut.

By the end of Sunday night, the story was no longer confined to intelligence briefings, diplomatic channels, or anonymous accusations traded between Washington, Jerusalem and Ankara. It had moved into Israeli homes. Iran had fired ballistic missiles toward Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire, according to reporting from Axios, and Israeli air defenses were activated as civilians were sent into protected spaces. A later report said Iran launched eleven ballistic missiles before Israel struck military targets in western and central Iran, a response also reported by Reuters. What began as an alleged failure of operational secrecy is now being measured in the most concrete terms possible: alarms, interceptions, families in shelters, and a sovereign state forced once again to defend its civilians from missiles launched by the Islamic Republic.

There is growing worry, especially among Israeli news sources, about Israel’s future. One primary reason for the angst is Turkey’s dramatically growing desire and efforts to establish hegemony over the entire region. This, they fear is happening while America’s desire to withdraw from the region as “sheriff” threatens to leave Israel to defend itself without US military help.
Turkey, of course, is included, we believe, within the prophesied Gog-Magog assault given by the prophet Ezekiel.

For decades, the internet was fundamentally a human creation. Every website, every comment, every search, every purchase, and every viral trend ultimately traced back to a real person sitting behind a keyboard. That reality has now changed.
According to Cloudflare, one of the largest internet infrastructure companies in the world, automated bot traffic has officially surpassed human traffic online. More than 57 percent of requests hitting the websites it monitors now come from bots, AI agents, and automated systems, while less than 43 percent come from actual people.
That milestone may sound like a technical curiosity reserved for programmers and network engineers. In reality, it could represent one of the most significant transformations in the history of the internet—and one that will eventually affect everyone.

Since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, American presidents have wrestled with the same challenge: how to negotiate with a regime that openly declares hostility toward the United States while demanding the benefits of diplomacy. Having covered US-Iran relations since 1977, I have observed Iranian leaders agreeing in principle to concessions, then introducing new conditions. The result is a diplomatic cycle that consumes years while Tehran advances its interests. The latest reports follow this familiar script. Iranian officials continue signaling agreement then rejecting key provisions of the agreement. Meanwhile, chants of “Death to America” and repeated threats against Israel are sounding off in the background.
The responsibility for today’s crisis stretches across multiple American administrations. President Jimmy Carter’s handling of the Iranian Revolution and hostage crisis helped usher in a new era of instability. Subsequent administrations largely pursued containment, sanctions, negotiations, and limited military responses. Reagan stood apart by confronting Iranian proxies more directly. President Trump today has employed maximum pressure and authorized decisive action against Iranian military leadership. Yet most administrations have chosen policies that managed the threat rather than eliminated it. The United Nations has even a worse track record. Each round of diplomacy has tended to buy Iran time, and time has consistently strengthened its regional influence and sponsorship of terror.
That history raises questions about current negotiations. Reports indicate discussions continue while Hezbollah remains active, the Houthis continue threatening regional shipping and Israeli interests, and Iranian-backed militias maintain influence throughout the region. These organizations are not independent actors. They function as extensions of Iran’s broader strategic vision. Negotiating ceasefires that allow these groups breathing room may reduce immediate violence, but they also provide opportunities to reorganize, recruit, rearm, and rebuild. History suggests that every pause in hostilities must be evaluated through the lens of whether it advances peace or simply postpones the next conflict. Diplomatic agreements become fragile when one side continues supporting organizations dedicated to armed confrontation.
Perhaps the most revealing development is speculation that Iran’s civilian leadership is struggling against the power of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. If true, that reality highlights a central obstacle to any lasting peace agreement. Negotiations conducted with political leaders have limited value when military and ideological institutions wield ultimate authority. The Revolutionary Guard was created to preserve the revolution, export its ideology, and resist Western influence. That mission has not changed. In Ezekiel 38:16, the Lord tells Ezekiel that in the latter days a coalition including modern Iran, “shall come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land.” The timing remains known only to God. But these current developments underscore that signed agreements do not have the last word on Iran’s role in the end times.

The great preacher John Wesley was riding his horse one day when he realized that three days had passed since he’d been persecuted in any way. In that time, not a single brick had been thrown in his direction. He’d not been hit by even a single egg. He stopped his horse and said out loud, “Could it be that I am backslidden or I have sinned?” Slipping down from his mount, he knelt on one knee and asked the Lord to show him if there was anything wrong with him spiritually.
A man who disliked Wesley happened by and saw him kneeling in prayer. The man picked up a brick and threw it at him, barely missing the preacher. When Wesley saw the brick fly by, he said, “Thank you, Lord! I know I still have Your presence.” Is it any wonder that Wesley was such a powerful preacher?
The takeaway from this story isn’t that we should pray for bricks to be thrown our way. The takeaway is that opposition and persecution are often signs that we’re doing something right, spiritually speaking. There’s no reason for our spiritual enemy to attack ineffective believers. But believers who have the potential to make a difference for God’s kingdom scare him. So, he hauls out the big gun of persecution to try to silence them.
If you’re a follower of Christ, your very presence will bother some people. You don’t even have to say anything to arouse their opposition. Your presence is like a bright light shining in a dark place. And for some people, that’s not necessarily a good thing. Jesus said, “God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil” (John 3:19 NLT).
The persecution we experience because of our beliefs aligns us with the One in whom we believe. Jesus said, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you” (John 15:18–19 NLT). To be treated in the same way that Jesus was treated is an honor and a blessing.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs” (Matthew 5:10 NLT). Sometimes persecution shows itself as a brick coming our way—that is, as some kind of physical harm, or perhaps even death. Other times, it shows itself in the form of mockery or rejection and causes us to lose friends or perhaps even a job. Whatever form it takes, the reality is this: If you’re living a godly life, then you will face persecution.
If you endure and thrive in the face of that persecution, you’ll forge a powerful testimony that impacts people more than words ever could.
