Can you imagine what a full-blown war between Israel and Iran would look like? We are literally on the verge of an apocalyptic war in the Middle East, but it isn’t getting much attention in the western world because everyone is so focused on the upcoming U.S. presidential election. I completely understand why people are so focused on this election, but what is about to happen in the Middle East has the potential to change the course of history. Once Israel attacks Iran, nothing will ever be the same again. Iran has already promised to hit Israel back extremely hard, and that would compel Israel to attack Iran again. Once these two heavyweights start pummeling one another, it may be virtually impossible for anyone to stop the fight until it is decisively concluded.
According to CNN, U.S. officials are saying that they expect Israel to attack Iran before the U.S. presidential election on November 5th…
American officials expect Israel will retaliate against Iran for its attack earlier this month before November 5, sources tell CNN, a timeline that would thrust the growing volatility in the Middle East squarely into public view within days of the American presidential election.
The timeline and parameters of Israel’s retaliation against Iran have been subject to intense debate inside Israel’s government and are not directly related to the timing of the US election, the sources said.
Still, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — described by senior US administration officials as a political animal deeply attuned to American politics — appears highly sensitive to any potential political ramifications of Israel’s actions in the US, they said.
If this report is accurate, that means that the attack on Iran will almost certainly occur before the end of October.
CNN is also reporting that Israel’s military plan for a strike on Iran “is ready”…
Israel’s plan to respond to Iran’s October 1 attack is ready, a source familiar with the matter told CNN, without providing further information.
CNN has reached out to the Israeli ministry of defense for comment.
If the plan “is ready”, that would seem to infer that the specific targets have already been selected.
And that lines up perfectly with a report that was just put out by the Times of Israel…
According to Channel 12 news, the military presented a list of targets to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Gallant as it finalizes preparations, which include “sensitive coordination” with other countries in the region.
A report by the Kan public broadcaster said “the political echelon” had decided on the targets, without specifying which officials or decision-making forum.
“The targets are clear. Now it’s a matter of time,” an Israeli source told the broadcaster.
That sounds pretty definitive.
It is clear that an attack is coming.
The only question now is what day it will happen.
Will the Israeli government wait until after the Feast of Tabernacles to launch the strike?
If so, it would appear that the last week of October would be the most likely window of time for the attack.
Of course it is always possible that the Israeli government could order the attack to happen right away.
We just don’t know.
But what we do know is that the Iranians have told us over and over again what will happen if Israel attacks.
In fact, the foreign minister of Iran just made it very clear to the head of the UN…
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned UN chief Antonio Guterres that Tehran is ready for a “decisive and regretful” response if Israel attacks his country in retaliation to the almost 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1.
An Iranian response would almost certainly be quite a bit larger than the missile attack that we witnessed on October 1st.
Needless to say, such an Iranian response would not cause the Israelis to back down.
Instead, Israel would just hit back even harder.
And then there would be all-out war between Israel and Iran.
Are you ready for that?
As the world waits for the Israeli attack on Iran to begin, the IDF just continues to hammer targets all over Lebanon.
In fact, the IDF just hit Beirut with missile strikes for the first time in six days even though the Biden administration has been strongly urging Israel to show restraint…
Just hours after the Biden administration warned Israel over the expanding scope and scale of its military strikes on Lebanon’s capital, the Israeli military said its fighter jets flew to the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh and struck an underground Hezbollah weapons cache. Dahiyeh, considered a stronghold of the Iran-backed, U.S. and Israeli-designated terrorist group, has been hit by Israeli missiles previously, but the strikes Tuesday night were the first in five days.
The overnight attack was Israel’s fourth on the Lebanese capital since it started targeting top Hezbollah officials in the country in mid-September. Israeli airstrikes on Oct. 10 killed at least 22 people and injured more than 120 others in a particularly deadly 24-hour period.
And it appears that preparations are being made for a widespread ground operation along the northern front…
Israeli troops have cleared landmines and established new barriers on the frontier between the Golan Heights and a demilitarized strip bordering Syria in a sign Israel may expand its ground operations against Hezbollah while bolstering its own defenses, security sources and analysts claimed on Tuesday.
The move suggests Israel may seek to strike Hezbollah for the first time from further east along Lebanon’s border, at the same time creating a secure area from which it can freely reconnoiter the terror group and prevent infiltration, the sources said.
Tens of thousands of people have already been killed since this war began on October 7th, 2023.
But if all-out war between Israel and Iran erupts, millions of people could die.
I wish that I was exaggerating.
This is it.
This is the biggest Middle East war, and as I have been warning for years, it is going to shock the entire planet.
Israel and Iran have been getting ready for this final showdown for a very long time.
And once they start going at it, this war won’t be over until one side settles things decisively.
Aligning Against God: CBS Urges Staff Not to Acknowledge Any Jewish Connection to Jerusalem

Last week, World Israel News (WIN) reported that “in an internal memo circulated in August, Mark Memmott, CBS News’s senior director of standards and practices, emailed colleagues urging them to ‘be careful with some terms when we talk or write about the news’ regarding Israel and Gaza.”
“One of the many hot-button terms,” WIN explained, “was ‘Jerusalem,'”
Memmott urged in his memo, “Do not refer to [Jerusalem] as being in Israel.”
The CBS senior director continued this by saying, “Yes, the U.S. embassy is there, and the Trump administration recognized it as being Israel’s capital. But its status is disputed. The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel regards Jerusalem as its ‘eternal and undivided’ capital. At the same time, the Palestinians claim East Jerusalem—occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war—as the capital of a future state.”
According to WIN, “Memmott insisted that journalists not only refrain from referring to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital but deny that any area of the city is part of Israel.”
Wow! I am amazed at how ignorant people can be when it comes to Israel. It is especially shocking when this level of ignorance comes from those who should know better and are supposed to be reporting the truth—unbiased, with facts. It is sad to say that that is not the case among much of the media.
For Mark Memmott at CBS, and really much of the world, to think that Jerusalem is in any way a “Palestinian city” connected to a “long lost land called Palestine” is absurd and entirely ridiculous!
The word Jerusalem isn’t found even once in the Quran, but it is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. Furthermore, Jerusalem has been connected with the Jewish people for the past 3000 years. That’s history, and CBS, as well as the world, need to do their homework.
Even more importantly, let’s look at the Word of God and see what the God of this universe has to say about Jerusalem.
Psalm 132:13-14 reads, “For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: ‘This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.'”
Ezekiel 5:5 states, “Thus says the Lord God: ‘This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations and the countries all around her.'” In other words, God has placed Jerusalem in the center of the world.
In Luke 21:24, Jesus Himself prophesies, “And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away captive into all nations.” This happened in 70 AD. Then Christ says this about Jerusalem, “And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”
When did the “time of the Gentiles” begin? 586 BC, when the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, and King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and the temple. It began then, and it’s going to continue all the way until the end of the Tribulation period, when Israel’s Messiah, Yeshua, returns.
Look at Zechariah 12:3, which states, “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” God is going to make Jerusalem a heavy stone, and He warns that everyone that burdens themselves with it will one day be cut in pieces.
Psalm 48:1-2 are two verses that I especially love. Verse one reads, “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, In His holy mountain.”
The “holy mountain” speaks of Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, where the first and second Jewish temples once stood and where we see that Islamic shrine, the Dome of the Rock, standing to this day.
We also read in the Bible that a third temple will be erected during the tribulation period (2 Thess. 2:4, Matt. 24:15, Daniel 9:27). Then in the millennial kingdom, we will also see Ezekiel temple, the millennial temple, stand for 1000 years.
Psalm 48:2 continues, “Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King.”
This is God’s holy mountain in Jerusalem, and the “great King” is none other than the King of the Jews, Jesus Christ.
When I read verses such as these and look at history, I am astonished that the world cannot see that Jerusalem is connected with the Jewish people and not with some made-up fantasy land called “Palestine.” Why is it that more countries with embassies in Israel do not relocate them to Jerusalem, as the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, and Kosovo have? Why is that? I’ll tell you why—because it is a spiritual matter.
Satan, who is the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2), wants to rule there. Satan hates what God has established and is doing everything that he can to thwart God and His Word in any way possible. This is the heart of Satan. God says this about Lucifer in Isaiah 14, “For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north.” The “mount” again speaks of the Temple Mount.
In verse 14, Satan says, “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.'” What does God say about that? He says to Satan, “Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.”
That is Satan’s ultimate destiny. That’s the crux of this matter. As I’ve said many times, if Satan can in some way prove God wrong, then the conclusion is that God is a liar, and Satan can’t be judged. That is what we are going through today. That is the crux of the matter of antisemitism. It is Satanic in origin.
However, friends, we also know the rest of the story. Don’t we? Satan will not prevail. That’s what we read in Isaiah 14:15. And the nations that are doing his dirty work today… woe unto them! They will one day have to give an account, and they will be judged severely.
As for CBS and those that think like them, the future of Jerusalem, a Jewish city with a Jewish King, is set in stone in God’s word, sealed by His promises, and never to be changed.
In Zechariah 14:16-19, this is what we read of the future of Jerusalem that’s yet coming to planet Earth, “And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.”
Do you get the point that God’s making here, over and over? Look at what Jerusalem will be one day in verses 20-21: “In that day ‘HOLINESS TO THE LORD’ shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar. Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.”
Do you see that preeminence shift from the Gentiles to the Jewish people? That’s what’s coming when Israel’s Messiah returns. That’s not even discussing “New Jerusalem,” the Eternal City (Revelation 21)!
Jerusalem has a future, and it’s founded in the promises that the God of this universe has made—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We ought to align ourselves with God’s prophetic plan for this world. Until then, let’s continue to do as Psalm 122:6 instructs: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.”

The Apple of God’s Eye

Israel was, is, and always will be the apple of God’s eye. As Christians we should love the Jewish people and pray for Israel. Why? Simply put, God says we should. Scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and we can trust what God says. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
We have Scripture, both the Old Testament and the New Testament, to guide us in our living. The Old Testament was fulfilled by Jesus, but the Old Testament was not negated. So, when we read prophecy passages, we can be certain they will be fulfilled just as Scripture says. When we read passages in which God tells of His love for Israel, we need to take note and love Israel, too. “Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: if those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.” Jeremiah 31:35-36.
God will never stop loving Israel, and it’s existence as nation is secure.
There is a very evil belief among many Christians, that says that Christians have replaced Israel in God’s heart. That is a teaching straight from Satan. Christians are a separate group of believers. In the beginning, there were only people, with no separate national nor ethnic identity. Sin separates us from God, who loves all of His creation. To solve the sin problem, God began to teach humans what constitutes sin. He called Abraham, gave him the promised land which we call Israel, forever, and set in motion the steps to reconciliation. It was through Abraham’s son Isaac that the promise would be fulfilled. Moses led the Israelites out of Egyptian captivity and was given the law. This law governed Israel for years and kept them separate from Gentiles, who were mostly ungodly pagans; it taught the ways of God. “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” Galatians 3:24-25.
This is a truth that many people don’t understand. Christ came to fulfill the law, not to destroy it. The Ten Commandments are still the moral guidance we should follow. When we fail to live up to God’s standards, we no longer have to offer a blood sacrifice to cover our sin. Jesus Christ was the blood sacrifice to take our sin away. Does that mean we no longer sin? Of course we sin, and we always will while living on this side of Heaven. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10.
Some feel you have to confess to a priest or other clergy, but Christians only need to confess to Christ. No human can take your sin away.
Having said all of that, where does that leave Israel? Did Jesus die for their sins? Absolutely. The salvation of all people is available to everyone through Jesus Christ. “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put o Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:27-29.
That’s a blessing. By faith in Jesus, Gentiles become Abraham’s seed, just as the Jewish people can be saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Salvation isn’t an automatic thing. First, you have to realize you are a sinner and that no animal sacrifice can take sin away. “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goat should take away sins.” Hebrews 10:4.
Only the blood of Jesus will take away sin completely. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10.
In order to obtain eternal life, you have to personally accept Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for your salvation. This goes for every ethnic group on earth.
There is no other way to find eternal life, but through Jesus Christ. Allah cannot save you; Buddha cannot bring salvation, nor can Mormonism. I could keep going through a long list of cults and false teachings, but I will simply quote Jesus. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6.
There is no other way. Salvation is a free gift of God, but like all gifts, you have to accept it. You cannot be a Christian simply because your parents are Christians. You might have an easier time understanding your need for salvation through Jesus, but you have to accept His free gift for yourself. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9. Nobody can make that confession for you.
So, where does that leave the Jewish people? They have promises from God that He hasn’t turned away from them. Just as promised, the Messiah was born of a virgin in Bethlehem. Jesus was Jewish but as foretold in prophecy, He was rejected by the very people who should have recognized Him as their Messiah. It’s important to pay attention to prophecy. Because they rejected Him, salvation was opened to Gentiles, but the Jewish people were blinded and didn’t accept Him. “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.” Romans 11:25-27.
If anybody tries to convince you that God no longer sees Israel as the apple of His eye, they are wrong. Eventually, all of Israel will recognize Jesus as the Messiah, but they will face horrendous troubles to bring them to the truth. The Tribulation will be what brings them to recognize Jesus as their Messiah. When that happens, Jesus will return and end their battle with the evil that is, even now, working in this fallen world. That won’t happen until the “fulness of the Gentiles” has been accomplished.
What is that? It’s a number of people who accept Jesus Christ for salvation. What is the number? Only God knows. When people set a date for the Rapture, don’t believe them. Usually, they try to tie the Rapture to a Jewish Feast Day. Scripture clearly says that nobody knows the day and they forget that it’s a number that needs to be reached, not a particular day. Of course, the number could happen on a Jewish Feast, but Christians need to witness to the lost. That’s the only way to help fulfill the time of the Gentiles and bring the Rapture.
Remember to pray for Israel. As the rockets take aim at that precious nation, and the bombs drop on them, they need prayer. I have an App on my phone called Red Alert. An alarm goes off every time a rocket is fired at Israel or enemy aircraft enter Israeli air space. When the alarm sounds, I stop and pray for God’s protection over the apple of His eye. I pray that the bombs go off course and that the navigation fails on the airplanes. Scripture urges us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, God’s city and the Jewish capital. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” Psalm 122:6.
Don’t pray for land division, but pray for peace. Remember, God told Abraham “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:3. That truth is as true today as it was when it was given.
Bless Israel, and don’t curse the apple of God’s eye.

‘Drag Me to Hell’: The Demonic Nature of What’s Happening Is No Longer Being Hidden

A leading taxpayer-funded California university will host what organizers are calling a “demonic” drag show steeped in the occult later this month. Known as “Drag me to hell,” the horror-themed drag festival is being marketed as a “one-of-a-kind Halloween event” for students.
“Join us for a festive night of dancing, drag, and dress-up!” reads the event description on the University of Southern California’s website featuring grotesque videos of men dressed as caricatures of women covered in blood and demonic regalia.
“Drag Me to Hell is a one-of-a-kind Halloween event inspired by queer pioneers in 1930s–60s Los Angeles who found refuge in science-fiction fandom and the occult underground,” the invitation continues.
Among other highlights, the event will feature “demonic drag performances” by performers who go by names such as “Specimen Scythe.” It will also include “world-renowned Dragula stars” Vander Von Odd and HoSo Terra Toma, the description says, adding that HoSo is short for “little fxxxxt” in Korean.
Each of the drag queens has a short biography posted on the site. “Specimen Scythe,” for instance, is described as a “non-binary drag artist” who performs in “horror-themed drag, exploring the bizarre and the beautiful in their fearsome ensembles.” By day, the individual does “gender-affirming body modification.”
USC students are encouraged to wear their own do-it-yourself costumes for a contest hosted by “drag sensation Miss Toto.” That individual, who uses she/her pronouns, has raised over $50,000 for the Marxist “Black Lives Matter” movement as part of a “passion for philanthropy,” the site says.
Numerous faculty members are involved. And the event will feature music by USC Professor of “Sacred Music” Emily Sung, who focuses on “the intersection of vocals, gender expression, and technological experimentation in electronic music.”
The event is being organized by USC “Visions and Voices,” which is described as a “university-wide arts and humanities initiative that features a spectacular array of interdiciplinary [sic] events.” The demonic event is co-sponsored by the USC “Fisher Museum of Art.”
But this appears to be just the tip of the iceberg of the demonic and occult activity taxpayers are being forced to finance at USC and beyond.
In fact, less than a week before the “drag me to hell” event, USC Visions and Voices is hosting an event on “conjuring the invisible world” featuring “magical arts” and “spiritualism.” The God of the Bible describes all such activity as an “abomination.”
Meanwhile, the demonic event at USC follows a similar drag fest at California State University on October 11. Dubbed a “Werk Witch Drag Show,” the event was touted as “an intersectional drag show” that encourages participants to “let your inner WITCH shine.”
Of course, the tax-funded occult drag events in California follow the blasphemous drag performance at the summer Olympics in Paris featuring a mockery of the Last Supper. The performance caused a fierce backlash and was condemned worldwide.
It also comes as more and more “drag” performers, including many who read to children in “Drag Queen Story Hour” events, are exposed as child predators, often with criminal records.
For many years, demonic drag queens have been reading LGBT stories to minors in libraries and public schools. One such event at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library featured “Xochi Mochi” wearing a dress and red-tipped demon horns.
The anti-Christian hate is coming out in the open, too. When two Christian members of the Cedar Park, Texas, City Council spoke out against a drag queen event targeting children at the library, the local Satanic church and witch coven went after them and even tried casting spells on them, according to the Christian Post.
But despite the horror, God appears to be working in it all. A decade ago, self-proclaimed “satanic drag queen” Trace McNutt surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. He now works with Voice of the Voiceless to minster to and protect those who leave homosexuality while encouraging those still trapped in the sin to repent and leave the darkness behind.
The demonic nature of what is happening is no longer hidden in the slightest. In fact, more and more, it is being openly celebrated. And it is being funded by taxpayers. Readers are encouraged to pray for those in the grip of this diabolical deception — and especially for the children in their crosshairs.

Springfield, Ohio has come up in both the presidential and vice presidential debates. Candidates and the media have gotten into spitting contests as to what is happening in Springfield. In a real sense, Springfield represents the heart of the nation. Not only is it in Ohio—one of the most important states when it comes to presidential elections—it seems to represent a microcosm of what is happening throughout the entire country. Here, the out of control illegal alien population has inundated a once quiet, yet thriving middle-class community. Costs of housing, food and essentials skyrocketed as a result. Crime increased. Government and citizens are at odds. Let them settle it for all of us as champions for Americans.
It is amazing that the Biden-Harris Administration is trying to spin the influx of illegals in Springfield as nonsense. They are sticking to their bait and switch that TECHNICALLY those Haitians invading Springfield are legal. They are legal because the Biden-Harris socialists declared them legal through a controversial parole program. CNN reports that applicants are vetted and must have a US sponsor. Approved participants are granted travel authorization and permission, known as parole, that allows them to enter the US legally. Biden-Harris decided that there were so many of these people coming in illegally that they would just find a way to make them legal so as to reduce the illegal human traffic across the border. It’s true. They are technically legal, but not really as many challenge the Biden-Harris program as illegal in the first place.
So now you have all these illegal legal aliens getting drivers licenses and registering to vote through the back door. The politicians say no, they cannot legally vote. But isn’t it strange that many communities, even in Ohio, are finding hundreds of illegals registered to vote. That’s just the ones they find. How can you tell the difference once the vote is cast? You can’t. Springfield residents understand all this. They are the ones putting up with Haitians who don’t know the laws, have their own customs and culture that cannot assimilate, and a local government that refuses to listen to and believe the citizens. Even today, after all has been exposed, the Springfield government is essentially saying, “nothing to see here.”
Yep, Springfield should decide the presidential election. Citizens there are facing the same insane garbage that the rest of America faces. They have the same kind of government that refuses to hear the people. They have the same economic and crime problems created by the government. They have the same kind of people who refuse to see truth. And they have the same kind of patriots that want to keep this country from declining further. Let them decide. It would be like the Biblical champion system—David, representing legal citizens of Springfield, and Goliath, representing illegals, government, and media. As in 1 Samuel 17:26, “for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” Yes, I ask it. You should know I’m kidding, I think. I know who our champion is, and we need him now more than ever.

In Jesus’ day, salt had great value. In fact, Roman soldiers were sometimes paid in salt. That’s where we get the expression, “He’s not worth his salt.” Salt was valuable because it stopped the spread of rot in meat. In the days before refrigeration, people would cut meat into strips and embed it in salt to preserve it. The followers of Christ, the salt of this world, serve a similar function.
Christians stop the spread of rot—or evil—in our culture today. Christians stand up for the rights of the unborn. Christians speak out against racism and try to bring about reconciliation. Christians help people in need. That’s what it means to be salt in our culture today.
Another thing salt does is stimulate thirst. If you eat salty popcorn in a movie theater, it will make you thirsty. (And then you’ll have to spring for a soft drink the size of a small wading pool—with free refills—or a $40 bottled water.)
As the salt of the earth, believers stimulate a thirst to know God in others. When people see someone who loves the Lord, walks with Him, and experiences His joy, they get curious. Maybe a little envious. They start to want what the believer has.
That’s how I came to Christ. I had transferred to a new high school. One of my friends warned me, “Greg, the Jesus freaks are everywhere here. Be careful.”
I said, “Oh, yeah. The last thing that’s ever going to happen is that Greg Laurie will become a Jesus freak.” Famous last words, right?
But here’s what interested me about these people: They had joy and happiness—things I didn’t have. I realized that there was an emptiness in my life. It was the believers’ walk with God that attracted me to them. I showed up at one of their meetings but sat far enough away that people wouldn’t think I was one of them. When I heard what it means to be a Christian, I gave my life to the Lord. The thing that ultimately reached me was Christians being salty. Christians living as Christians ought to live was very attractive to me.
Likewise, Christians who have lost their saltiness can make people turn up their noses at our faith. If you treat your faith like a chore—or if you take it seriously only when it’s convenient for you—people will notice. And they’ll judge your faith to be worthless.
If you live your faith with passion, purpose, and joy, people will also notice. And they’ll start to get thirsty.
