Will Israel’s Northern Residents Be a Casualty of The Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire?

Joe Biden’s international track record has been disastrous, particularly in the Middle East. His ill-conceived withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in 2021 set the stage for what has been one blunder after another. Under this administration, Iran has felt empowered to push forward their nuclear program while bulking up the strength of their proxy militias. The Houthi rebels of Yemen have become the pirates of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, who, while they’re at it, aren’t afraid to launch a suicide drone or shoot a missile at Israel every now and again.

And it was because of the weakness of the White House that Hamas felt emboldened to carry out its attack on October 7. There is no one who can tell me that massacre would have taken place if our 45th and soon-to-be 47th president had been sitting behind the Resolute Desk. To keep himself from being seen as an incompetent failure when it came to international negotiations, Joe Biden needed at least one win. With this twist of Israel’s arm, he believes he has gotten it.

The Nuts and Bolts of the Ceasefire

According to the New York Times, there are five parts to this truce:

Israel and Hezbollah will cease firing for 60 days
Israel will gradually withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon
Hezbollah forces will move north to be replaced in the south by Lebanese military
These withdrawals will create a buffer zone along the Israeli border
The goal is for this truce to become permanent

A number of nations will oversee this deal, including the United States and France, as well as a peacekeeping force belonging to the United Nations. If Israel sees Hezbollah terrorists in the border zone, they retain the right to military action.

Before and After the Ceasefire

In the days leading up to the ceasefire, fighting was hot and heavy. Hezbollah fired 250 rockets and other airborne weapons into Israel on Sunday, causing some damage. Israel struck back hard all the way up to the time the ceasefire went into effect. Hezbollah’s Aerial Unit 127 was particularly hard hit, losing in excess of 150 UAV launch positions, 30 command centers, 20 weapons storage facilities containing UAVs and cruise missiles, and four drone and missile manufacturing workshops. Both sides wanted to inflict as much damage as they could before they had to silence their guns.

Since the ceasefire began, there has been a mass migration of Lebanese back south to the second and third tier cities and towns. First tier towns would be those right along the border. But along with the residents have come Hezbollah operatives who have simply put on civilian clothing. There is no one there to stop them, because as of the time of this writing, the Lebanese army and UNIFIL (the UN’s peacekeepers in Lebanon) are still back at their bases apparently trying to figure out how to lace up their combat boots.

Meanwhile, down in Israel the residents of north still aren’t able to go home, nor will they be able to until it is assured that the threat directly across the border has been dealt with. It had looked like we were well on the way to making that happen. But all that progress is being reversed.

My Opinion of the Ceasefire

This is a terrible deal. Here is my take on the ceasefire:

The supposed buffer zone in southern Lebanon is not a real buffer. It is space that will be occupied by the Lebanese military, UNIFIL, and civilians that can easily be infiltrated by Hezbollah.

Lebanese residents who allowed Hezbollah to operate from their villages are experiencing no repercussions. They can move back in so they can prepare the guest rooms for when their terrorist friends sneak back down to their home-away-from-home.

As mentioned above, Hezbollah operatives can simply change into Lebanese army uniforms and return to the south. There is no shibboleth that can help determine the terrorists from the civilians.

France, who doesn’t even allow Israel to participate in weapons exhibitions within their borders, is now part of the supervision mechanism. Why do I think that they will lean in their judgments toward the Francophile Lebanese? At least Paris has come out and said that Netanyahu is entitled to immunity from ICC arrest warrants because Israel is not a party to the court. We’ll give them a very small tip of the cap for that one.

A 60-day-truce is essentially an end to hostilities. Unless Hezbollah does something completely nuts, like try to perpetrate their own October 7, there is little chance of Israel being able to gin up enough international goodwill to relaunch an invasion. This very likely would be true even with Donald Trump in office.

Benjamin Netanyahu promised a generational change. What we got in the north is more of the same. Fight hard, sacrifice our children, then pull back when the international pressure gets too tough. I will admit that I have the benefit of distance. I am not sitting in his office having to deal with the internal and international pressures which have to be back-breaking. When Netanyahu summed up the ceasefire deal, he put forth three items:

The ceasefire was forced on Israel by the Biden administration by continuing the embargo of much-needed arms.
Israel will use the time to go after the source of Hezbollah’s power – Iran. It will begin now and go full speed after Trump takes office. It is good that Netanyahu emphasized this because Iran International has reported that the Islamic regime has injected gas into thousands of advanced centrifuges in order to enrich more weapons-grade uranium. The progress of this program must be stopped while it still can.
Israel is forced to wait for the next White House administration to go all in.

Netanyahu must find a way to pick back up the battle to wipe out Hezbollah once Trump is in office. Otherwise, the north will never feel safe. The prime minister has two years left in his term, and he likely won’t run again. To secure his legacy as a generational leader, he must destroy Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian nuclear program.

Cracks in the New 'Axis of Evil': China, Russia, North Korea, Iran

The Russia-North Korea-China relationship is not an equilateral triangle but an evolving alliance with conflicting interests, and reportedly beginning to show signs of fracture and lack of trust.

Now that North Korean troops have joined Russian forces in fighting a democratic country, Ukraine, the global ramifications of this East-West coalitional warfare have darkened. An alliance of aggressive dictatorships are directly confronting the free West.

Western intelligence agencies have reported that North Korea has deployed about 3,000 troops in the Kursk region of Russia, now occupied by Ukraine. North Korea has reportedly dispatched an additional 7,000 troops to Russia.

The deployment of these North Korean troops is supposedly justified by Moscow and Pyongyang through the joint Russia-North Korea Defense Treaty, signed on June 19, 2024 and ratified this month, stipulating that each signatory will come to the military assistance of the other if under attack by a third country.

The increased military-to-military links between North Korea and Russia also have regional ramifications, and China appears to have indicated to Moscow that the once heralded Sino-Russian "No Limits Alliance" may have some limits, after all.

Chinese President Xi Jinping apparently counseled Russian President Vladimir Putin not to visit North Korea immediately before or after visiting China. Xi's reported concern was that he did not want North Korea's "Supreme Leader" Kim Jong Un to be able to exploit such visits, thus gaining prestige or legitimacy as a great power.

Xi might also want to keep tight reins on any unpredictable moves by Kim that could destabilize the Korean Peninsula is ways that might counter Chinese interests.

Xi is possibly also concerned that a Russia short of cash could give North Korea advanced weapons and perhaps even nuclear technology, especially if Kim specifically requests them. China has not yet provided Russia's war effort against Ukraine with weapons systems, but Beijing could already be chafing at the knowledge that Pyongyang has delivered ballistic missiles to Moscow.

Russia, however, might view its enhanced defense links with North Korea as a gain. The Russian military, since its invasion of Ukraine, has reportedly sustained about 600,000 killed and wounded. The arrival of North Korean troops may have helped the Kremlin's leadership postpone announcing another mobilization of Russian recruits for its war effort. One report suggests that, ultimately, North Korea may dispatch 100,000 troops to Russia.

Moscow has already welcomed tens of thousands of North Korean laborers to work on construction projects. Another report indicates that Russia prefers North Koreans to Central Asian Muslim workers and is planning to import 500,000 North Korean laborers.

Historic relations between Russia and China have been fraught with conflict, particularly during the 19th century. Russia still controls hundreds of thousands of square miles of former Chinese territory. These lands were taken by Czarist Russia from China's Ching Dynasty primarily in the 1800s, as a consequence of what the Chinese call "Unequal Treaties."

China, underscoring its continuing territorial claims against Russia, recently published new maps featuring the Chinese names of cities in eastern Russia. Many farmers from China have already migrated to Russian Far East territories.

Moreover, there are vast stretches of lands in Russian Siberia that are virtually unoccupied, near a teeming Chinese population of 90 million on the other side of the border, in China's northern provinces.

Putin, as the owner of the largest nuclear weapons stockpile on the planet, may also be less than enchanted by the projected image of Russia as a junior partner anywhere.

China nevertheless views Russia as principally a source of oil and raw materials. The Kremlin might hope to rejuvenate itself by re-asserting its failing primacy in Central Asia amidst the independent post-Soviet countries.

These tensions among this Eurasian alliance of North Korea, Russia and China provide an opportunity for the incoming administration in the United States.

The World Is Quickly Becoming a High-Tech Prison… And Its ‘Governor’ Will Soon Take Up His Post

In the age of technology, we have been conditioned to accept that surveillance is an ordinary (and supposedly necessary) part of everyday life. Undoubtedly, surveillance has contributed to a feeling of safety, particularly in larger cities where the police presence is inadequate to deal with every threat. Therefore, whether you agree with the principle or not, many people are happy to trade personal privacy for personal safety. Despite individual views on the subject, what is largely beyond doubt is the role that surveillance will play during the Tribulation Period, particularly in the hands of the Antichrist and his global governance structure. As the Antichrist will have little time to build any new surveillance apparatus, my interest is in examining existing surveillance capabilities which are likely to form part of the Antichrist’s overall toolkit.

One such mysterious surveillance partnership is simply known as “Five Eyes”, often abbreviated as “FVEY” in intelligence reports. Five Eyes is an intelligence sharing partnership between five countries – Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States of America. The origins of the partnership can be traced back to the post-World War II period when the Allies sought to lay out their goals for a post-war world. In simple terms, each nation in the partnership carries out “global eavesdropping” and then shares pertinent information with its partners.

One such program used by intelligence agencies is referred to as Echelon. Officially, Echelon does not exist. However, there is ample evidence to confirm its role in global intelligence collection from at least the 1990s. Echelon was primarily used to collect data via supercomputers. It does this by intercepting signals intelligence to flag any messages containing key words listed in the Echelon dictionary. For instance, in a post-9/11 world, Echelon’s dictionary would have been updated to capture words such as “hijack”, “plane”, “Bin Laden”, etc. Transmissions via phone, facsimile and e-mail containing those words were flagged and then reviewed by intelligence analysts to see if there was any credible information available from it.

The use of Echelon raised the ire of the European parliament in the late 1990s and early 2000s when it accused the partnership of passing industrial secrets to the US and Britain. Although the subsequent report from Europe did confirm the existence of Echelon, it had no concrete proof that Five Eyes partners were engaging in commercial espionage. Still, what it did prove to many who read the report was that global communications were being monitored. In fact, the vice-chairman of the Echelon parliamentary committee said, “People should treat their emails like seaside postcards; that is to say put anything you like on them but don’t be surprised if someone else reads them.”

But Five Eyes partners don’t simply spy on enemy combatants. Reports indicate that the intelligence agencies of Five Eyes partners will routinely spy on each other’s citizens in order to circumvent restrictive domestic regulations concerning surveillance of a nation’s own people. For example, US intelligence agencies may be legally restricted from spying on US citizens, but there is nothing stopping the Australian Signals Directorate from doing so and then passing along all relevant information.

Of course, many other nations are also very well advanced in the area of surveillance. The Chinese government already possesses perhaps the most agile, invasive, and omnipresent surveillance capabilities in the world. Additionally, China has no reservations about spying on its own citizens. In recent years, the Chinese government launched a surveillance program called “Sharp Eyes”, which aims to utilise local governments and its local population in its surveillance efforts. The name was inspired by former leader Mao Zedong who coerced citizens into looking out for neighbours not living up to communist values. Rather than relying on limited government manpower to scope out offenders, he recommended a reliance on people power because “the people have sharp eyes”. The goal of the Sharp Eyes program is to have 100% coverage of public spaces and although this may be concerning, surveillance coverage is not the biggest concern for Chinese citizens. The use of predictive policing technology is becoming more popular, with hopes that the technology will eventually be able to sweep a person’s bank transaction data, location history and social connections, so that it is able to make a determination as to whether a particular person is a terrorist or criminal threat.

God did not establish civil government so that it could turn on its people, use its people, surveil its people and track its people. Yet so many of us have become conditioned to the supposed need for surveillance that it no longer bothers the average person when these technologies become even more ubiquitous. What these technologies ultimately reveal is that the world is quickly becoming a high-tech prison. Worse, the ultimate “governor” of this prison will soon take up his post. The Bible refers to him as the Antichrist and he will be the most wicked and cruel tyrant the world has ever seen. Church-age believers in Christ will never meet him, nor be under his authority, for we will be raptured home before he is revealed to the world. So that you avoid meeting him as well, be sure that you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour.

I got the Pfizer jab – twice – without giving it much thought at all. In retrospect I feel like a fool. I’ve long since been aware of just how much political propaganda we’re fed by the legacy media.

I recognized the idiocy of the mask mandates and the six-foot distancing rule and other elements of COVID theater; it didn’t occur to me, I guess, that the corporate media and Big Pharma might team up with the Deep State to push life-threatening drugs on the whole world, and to impose severe punishments upon those relatively few brave souls who dared to turn them down.

Anyway, we went through the pandemic, and then it ended, and now it can seem almost as if none of it ever happened – the enforced long-term isolation, the destruction of small business and jobs and interruption of schooling, the mass violation of individual rights, and the mass demonization of vaccine skeptics.

Anthony Fauci and countless others at the NIH and WHO and elsewhere should be behind bars, but I can’t remember the last time I even heard Fauci’s name. It’s as if even many of the people who were put through hell during the COVID years would prefer to try to forget about it and move on.

Fortunately, Naomi Wolf is not inclined to think that way. Wolf, a perennially controversial feminist whose bestselling first book was The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used against Women (1991), has long been a leading figure on the left, serving as an advisor to both Bill Clinton and Al Gore during their presidential campaigns in 1996 and 2000 respectively.

To be sure, she was always very much an independent spirit, ready to butt heads with sacred cows across the political spectrum

And when, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she found her view of lock-down measures as “totalitarian” unwelcome in the legacy media – which accused her of spreading “conspiracy theories” – she gave interviews on the subject to the likes of Tucker Carlson and Charlie Kirk as well as to the conservative TV networks Sky News Australia and GB News in Britain.

Wolf also appeared frequently on Steve Bannon’s WarRoom podcast – which helped make possible her eye-opening new book The Pfizer Papers: Pfizer’s Crimes against Humanity, edited by Wolf with Amy Kelly and published by WarRoom.

The Pfizer Papers is nothing less than a tour de force. As Bannon says in his foreword, it’s a searing indictment of Big Pharma, the legacy media, and the D.C. swamp, not to mention a definitive account of how both Pfizer and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) perpetrated a massive fraud upon not just the American public but the entire world, and not just for a day or two but for a period of years.

In her introduction, Wolf explains that lawyer Adam Siri sued the FDA to gain access to Pfizer’s internal records relating to the results of clinical testing of its mRNA injection for COVID-19 as well as to adverse events reported after the jab began to be administered to the public.

The result was the release of 450,000 pages of documents that the FDA had unsuccessfully – and inexplicably – asked a judge to keep secret for 75 years.

But what do you do with such a massive archive, especially given that it included so much information that could only be made sense of by a range of medical and scientific specialists?

The answer: Wolf recruited some 3,250 professionals around the world – immunologists, oncologists, obstetricians, pharmacologists, biologists, chemists, and so on, not to mention lawyers – to study the documents and explain their significance.

The “bought-off media,” as she puts it, had called the Pfizer jab “safe and effective.” But where did the truth lie? The truth – the somber truth – was that the top brass at Pfizer had known by April 2021 that their injections “damaged the hearts” of young people.

They knew that the jab had a myriad of other side effects – and that it was especially unsafe for pregnant women, young mothers, fetuses, and infants. Yet Pfizer withheld this and other vital information from the public, and government officials in the U.S., the UK, the EU, and Australia sought to suppress it.

Given the scale of the material collected in this book, it’s impossible to do it justice in even a lengthy review. So allow me to mention just a few of the findings.

An alarming number of people who’d received the Pfizer jab experienced liver damage (50% of them within 3 days of getting the shot), cardiac problems (50% within one day), neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome (50% within one day), or kidney injuries and renal failure (50% within 4 days).

People perished from anaphylaxis, autoimmune disorders, blood vessel inflammation, and vasculitis, among other complaints. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) appeared for the first time in the world since 2004.

Pathologists routinely told the families of people who died from these ailments that they were the result of natural causes; when the families asked for autopsies by other pathologists, those pathologists refused even to look at micrographs of the deceased individuals’ cells.

Finally Arne Burkhardt, a pathologist in Germany, agreed to look at the slides, and shared them with specialists in relevant fields – biology, chemistry, physics, etc. Burkhardt and his colleagues determined that the Pfizer shot had played a role in more than 80% of the deaths.

So widespread were these deaths during the pandemic that Burkhardt found it necessary to coin a new term – Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) – to describe a phenomenon that had, until then, been entirely unknown in all of human history.

As noted, pregnant women, new mothers, fetuses, and infants suffered disproportionately. Birth rates dropped. In many places, infants and children under twelve were given the jab seven months before it was approved for pediatric patients.

During a period when it wasn’t approved for children under twelve, injections gave rise to such anomalies as “Bell’s palsy in a 1-yr-old, stroke in a 7-yr-old, and renal failure in an infant.”

Meanwhile, over 54% of the pregnant women who were exposed to the vaccine had adverse effects;

19% of babies exposed via breast milk had adverse effects; 23% of vaccinated mothers’ fetuses or newborns died. “In one section of the documents,” we read, “over 80% of the pregnancies followed resulted in miscarriage or spontaneous abortion.”

And yet, according to The Pfizer Papers, one Pfizer document reported, beyond all logic, “that mRNA in breast milk was safe.”

The crucial point here is that not only did the Pfizer shot imperil fetuses, babies, and their mothers – Pfizer and the FDA knew it.

For whatever reason, however, they made an “aggressive effort” to inject pregnant women anyway, with CDC director Rachel Walensky explicitly urging at a White House briefing that pregnant women get the jab.

Burkhardt’s recommendation was diametrically opposed to Walensky’s: “If I were a woman in fertile age, I would not plan a motherhood from a person, from a man, who has been vaccinated …. Stop this vaccination at once.”

The Pfizer shot posed a threat not just to babies but to minors generally – a cohort that, of course, faced a very small likelihood of getting ill as a result of COVID infection.

Nonetheless there was a “$1 billion campaign to scare and cajole parents into having their children injected to keep them safe.” Schools around the world forced kids to get the jab.

And because so many children and teenagers were unnecessarily injected, there were innumerable deaths that could easily have been avoided.

Sample cases: a 15-year-old girl died of cardiac arrest; four days after receiving a second dose of the Pfizer jab, a 15-year-old boy “developed multifocal hemorrhagic lesions in his brain,” rendering him “permanently disabled”; a 13-year-old girl died three weeks after her third Pfizer jab.

The Pfizer Papers makes clear that among children between 5 and 11, even a jab far safer than Pfizer’s would have “posed as much risk or more risk than the disease itself.”

Ute Krüger, a Swedish pathologist, observed spikes in breast cancer, but her findings were even worse than that: the tumors were larger and more numerous than usual, grew “more aggressively and faster,” and occurred more frequently among younger patients than is usually the case.

She also encountered a number of breast cancer recurrences among patients who had been considered cured. Yet when Krüger presented her findings at a pathology conference in 2021, few of the attendees were interested in helping her look further into the disturbing facts.

Why?

Most likely, because her colleagues knew that Pfizer, like other major pharmaceutical companies, was in bed with its purported regulators at the FDA, and that the medical establishment was on board with all of it; hence most of the doctors who might be inclined to question the establishment’s messaging about the virus and the so-called vaccines didn’t dare do so for fear of career backlash and outright demonization.

Witness the fury directed at the distinguished Stanford physician Jay Bhattacharya and his fellow signers of the Great Barrington Declaration, which courageously criticized Fauci’s severe lockdown measures and spoke up for the efficacy of “herd immunity.”

In any event, one thing is clear now: “Pfizer knew by November 2020 that its mRNA Covid vaccine was neither safe nor effective.”

In early 2021, Pfizer found “significant harms and deaths” among those who got the jab. But instead of protecting the public from it, Pfizer played with the statistics: “investigators used very small numbers to determine that efficacy was high".

Then they ignored the same small numbers to determine safety, which included dismissal of adverse effects that occurred within a short time after doses. The methods that were good enough for efficacy were suddenly not good enough for safety.”

In short, “investigators used a test for efficacy that they knew was not valid.” The FDA was aware to at least some extent of the jab’s adverse effects. But the researchers for The Pfizer Papers found no evidence that the FDA did anything about them. It certainly didn’t tell the public.

Pfizer, for its part, appears to have hidden 97% of the jab’s negative outcomes, categorizing some deaths as “non-serious” and radically downplaying the mortality figures for fetuses and infants.

Pfizer’s habitual delays in reporting on injection-related deaths, meanwhile, led the FDA to overstate the jab’s safety.

In short, the FDA approval of the Pfizer shot was awarded partly in spite of things the FDA knew about its dangers and partly because it had been given “inaccurate data” by Pfizer.

Which leaves one question: Why did Pfizer and the FDA deceive the public? The Pfizer Papers deliberately confines itself to the known scientific facts, and consequently doesn’t speculate about motives.

But in a recent podcast interview, Wolf shared some of her thoughts on the subject. To her, the Pfizer injection was part of a deliberate assault on world health, and especially on the ability of women to reproduce.

In short, the jab’s failings don’t seem to have been caused by a pharmaceutical establishment that sped up formulation, testing, and production because it was desperate to save lives; rather it seems, rather, that Pfizer was out to do damage – to do damage, in particular, to the reproductive system, and to babies.

As my friend Peter “Fjordman” Jensen put it on Facebook, reading this book is like perusing Dr. Mengele’s diaries.

But why would Pfizer want to do damage? Wolf’s personal hypothesis is that Pfizer, and perhaps the other producers of mRNA injections for COVID (her book about Moderna is coming out in April), was engaged with the Chinese Communist Party – and, presumably, with key figures in the Western Deep State and legacy media – in a deliberate scheme to depopulate the planet while eroding Western freedoms with an eye to nurturing a Marxist orthodoxy with a “compliant, fearful workforce.”

(Wolf notes that China and Australia both established concentration camps for those who refused to get the jab – and that New York governor Kathy Hochul was eager to do so as well but was blocked by opponents.)

Is Wolf right about Pfizer’s and the FDA’s motives? The whole business is profoundly sobering – indeed, terrifying – to contemplate. And it’s perfectly consistent with the objectives of the World Economic Forum and its toadies around the globe, who give every indication of longing for the good old days of serfdom.

Until the last few years, when the Deep State in Washington, D.C., went to colossal extremes in its efforts to destroy Donald Trump, cripple his administration, and steal the 2020 election, a nefarious plot on such a scale would have seemed like a paranoid fantasy.

In 2024, however, it’s not really all that hard to believe that the powers that be at Pfizer and the FDA (far from being our friends and saviors) are, not to put too fine a point on it, utterly inhumane merchants of sheer, unvarnished evil.

Daily Jot: Visiting the Mayflower

When I was 10 years old, Mom and Dad took me out of school for a trip to all the New England states. One of the stops was Plymouth. I didn’t know it then, but they were giving me a history of my family as well as a lesson about what it means to be an American. As seen by the picture of mom and me on the Mayflower, I was very immersed in the experience. We visited the gravesite of William Bradford, governor of the Massachusetts Colony, co-writer of the Mayflower Compact, inventor of the free market system, and what I found much later, my grandfather 13 generations removed. The words translated from Latin etched on his gravestone say: “What our forefathers with so much difficulty secured, do not basely relinquish.”

Some 58 years later, my wife Chris, Service Dog Charlie and I packed up our Entegra RV and planned out the trip to some of the footsteps of that early childhood adventure. Like that little boy on the trip so long ago, I was once again filled with excitement and anticipation as we camped just outside of Plymouth. What made this trip so different was not only the camping experience, but I had done my homework about the real backstory my parents never had told me.

I had two Mayflower grandfathers—Bradford from my Dad’s side and Richard Warren from my Mom’s side. The visit to Plymouth was emotional and meaningful. We walked through the good ship Mayflower and listened to the docent speak about the pilgrims’ lives as 132 people packed into such a small space with animals and supplies for 70 days. I realized that they were true campers, not glampers like we were in our modern RV. No complaints here, grandpas!

With all the hardship around them and cramped into such small quarters, they had the spiritual guidance and presence of mind to draft one of the most amazing freedom-binding documents in American history—The Mayflower compact. Grandfather Bradford was credited with drafting the Mayflower Compact, binding them together into a body politic in the name of God, “And by Virtue hereof do enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions, and Officers, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general Good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due Submission and Obedience.”

With these words, 41 men agreed to govern in submission and obedience to God. And it was not just for their time on earth, but as is written on Bradford’s grave, the covenant and their sacrifices were not to be basely relinquished. Only 41 men began a nation with their signatures. This impressed me as a child, perhaps not so much with complete understanding at the time, but within my young farm boy spirit I became forever moved and awed by their words and deeds. Today, they serve as an inspiring example to me, woven into the fabric of my spirit, confirmed by my heritage, of overcoming great challenges because as Christ said in Matthew 19:26, “but with God all things are possible.”

The mood of John 14 was somber. Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure. They were understandably dejected and upset. Jesus lifted their spirits with a promise: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you” (verses 16–17 NLT). In other words, hang on. Something big is coming. God’s going to send the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In the Book of Acts, we see the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise. We see the powerful working of the Holy Spirit in the lives of ordinary people just like you and me. Ordinary people were able to do extraordinary things because they possessed a power beyond themselves. They possessed the power of the Holy Spirit.

Some people say it’s really hard to be a Christian. I disagree. I say it’s impossible to live the Christian life. It’s impossible without the empowerment and help of the Holy Spirit. We need His power in our lives. We can’t live the Christian life with only our own willpower. We live it with the Holy Spirit’s power working in us. In Philippians 2:12–13, Paul says, “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (NIV). So we do our part, but ultimately, it’s the Holy Spirit who does the work through us.

Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NLT). But Paul said, “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13 NLT). With our power and strength, we can’t overcome anything. With the Holy Spirit’s power and strength, we can do all things through Christ.

The Holy Spirit doesn’t just empower us; He also changes us. They say if you live with someone long enough, you start to take on some of their characteristics. That’s certainly true of the Holy Spirit, who lives inside all believers. His presence plants spiritual seeds in us. If we nurture them, they produce fruit for everyone to enjoy, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities make us better servants of Christ and better people. They draw others to us and open doors for sharing our faith.

One of the amazing truths about the Holy Spirit is that we can be filled with Him again and again and again. Every morning when we wake up, before our feet even hit the floor, we can pray, “Lord, fill me with the Holy Spirit today.” And He will grant our request.

We give thanks today for God’s Holy Spirit, who empowers us, guides us, produces fruit in our lives, and never leaves us.
