These Present Perilous Times

In the imagination, the Apostle Paul could well have been sitting watching a heavenly jumbo screen of some sort while penning what has come to be recorded as 2 Timothy chapter 3:

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was. (2 Timothy 3:1–9)

It does seem that Paul was permitted to look at some kind of prophecy jumbotron screen and see directly into this present hour. Certainly we’ve witnessed and/or endured much during these volatile times that we could use to make the case the great apostle’s words here project for our spiritual understanding of God’s dire prophecy for the end of the age.

Let’s have a brief look at some of this “perilous times” future wickedness Paul presents.

Here again I’m going to stay for the most part America-centric in considering Paul’s prophecy about these vexing days in which we find ourselves. That’s because this nation is the apex of all in recorded history, in terms of so-called civilization’s progress. God’s Word tells us that to those whom much is given, much is required.

Our nation has been materially blessed beyond all others of human history, and spiritually blessed beyond all but Israel. America’s responsibility to the God of Heaven is, I suspect, therefore held in Heaven’s most profound contempt for straying from His heavenly directives for conducting life on earth.

About these perilous times, Paul says the following:

“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud…”

Social media frames this perilous-times characteristic as much as any that come to mind.

We start with the photo-taking phenomenon that arose quickly with the coming of the social-media platforms. The nation seems alive with the prideful sin of narcissism in this matter of taking one’s own picture for all the cyber-universe to “enjoy.”

Following hard on the heels of the selfie came the millions of autobiographical stories of the social-media users. These self-aggrandizing pieces, putting forth everything from personal wealth exaggeration to fabulous descriptions of many romantic and other adventures were and are mostly prevarication to the max.

America has led the way in all of this Hollywood-inspired hype. Those who watch the lives of the movie personalities and their fantasy world then mix and weave such reports within their own wannabe lives’ fictions to present throughout cyberspace.

The perilous aspect of all this is that it invades the very souls of men, women, and children, taking them far from reality, and particularly from the fact that they are, rather than perfect people, individuals who need a Savior from the sin that is carrying them down the broad way that leads to destruction.

“…blasphemers, disobedient to parents…”

God is blasphemed in this nation in that America has degenerated from a time–one in which I was raised—when Christian parents had their children in church and oversaw their teaching of God’s Word, to this current moment when the young are, in many cases, turned over to their devices. This parental failure instills in tender minds that they, under the tutelage of cyberspace inculcation, can determine their own course of life.

Whenever they are then confronted with a parental recall to reestablish control, the children rebel, resenting in the strongest terms their devices being restricted or taken away.

“…unthankful, unholy…”

Statistics from the Barna Group and other organizations show a turn from Christian concepts within the American family. Same goes for every other aspect of life in the nation. All we have to do is observe the daily news reports, even from within our own hometown news sources, to understand that we’re an unholy generation.

The Apostle Paul’s forewarning from God in Romans 1:28—to any people who turn their backs on God—rings an alarm for our nation today. It seems we’ve reached the point in many ways that show God is turning this generation over to a reprobate mind. (As evidence of the upside-down thinking, I offer the wokeness insanity we’ve lately been subjected to.)

“…without natural affection…”

This perilous-times characteristic is one I’ve covered many times in this column. My thoughts haven’t changed–because God doesn’t change.

Abortion–shedding the blood of the innocent—is a matter I believe angers God to the extent few other sins reach. The denial that life begins at conception is the lie from Satan for which the world is about to pay a tremendous, wrathful price, I’m convinced.

Abortion, in which a mother deliberately allows the murder of her child while in her womb, is at the very heart of Paul’s forewarning. It is an act “without natural affection,” as is homosexuality. I believe the Lord is going to display for the entire world to see exactly when life begins, in His holy view.

I believe every child will go to be with Christ when He calls in the Rapture—including each and every child just conceived.

Homosexuality is another characteristic Paul forewarned when he labeled it as being “without natural affection.”

Satan constantly strives to take humankind away from belief in God’s order of things. One is the lie that same-sex relations in the matter of sexual pursuit are every bit as legitimate as heterosexual relationships. Another is the insanity of reprobate thinking that people can be whatever gender they think they are, not the one God gave them at birth.

This is a generation steeped in that perilous-times characteristic “without natural affection.”

“…trucebreakers, false accusers…”

There is no better (or worse) example we could consider in thinking on this characteristic than the political process in America today.

Truce-breaking is at every level in this, perhaps the lowest-rated job endeavor in America. Traitorous politicians make and break “deals” without a moment’s concern for whom the action is harmful, whether to opponents or to friends, for that matter.

But it is the area of false accusations that stands out most egregiously in these times. All we have to do is consider the many lies told about former and future President Donald J. Trump to understand we are witnessing Paul’s end-times characteristic termed “false accusers.”

As a matter of fact, the false accusations have become so prolific that they’ve morphed into a malady that refers to a psychological disturbance. We all know about the “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“…incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good…”

This characteristic can readily be understood in these end times. The word “incontinent” here can mean “addictive” or “in a state of agitation.” This is a precise picture of the tremendous use of illicit as well as prescription pharmaceuticals that saturates today’s American society and culture.

Many of those who exhibit this characteristic rage against those who want only a peaceful existence as they go about their lives. Christian values are particularly targeted by those who want no governance, especially not from the God of Heaven.

“…heady, highminded…”

There are perhaps many ways to look at this characteristic presented by the great apostle. However, I choose to assign this one in particular to American academia.

The colleges and universities of higher education have joined together to try to inculcate young adults to want to change this nation from its founding principles–principles that are influenced by God’s own hand in dealing with the founding fathers.

To paraphrase the Apostle Paul again, “Thinking themselves to be wise, they have become fools.”

Through denying the God of Creation, they teach anti-God, humanistic rebellion. Thereby they continue with the lies from Satan, the father of lies.

And it’s not only the higher institutions infected by the venom of rebellion. The public education system in America suffers this inculcation of evil at every level.

“…lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”

The one matter that stands out to me in this regard revolves around the churches in the nation that have defected from the true faith.

These have embraced the Sodom-like culture of this late, prophetic hour. They proclaim such lies as “the times have progressed,” thus making changes in order to accommodate is necessary to draw in and retain those who seek to know God.

The current pope, as a tremendously wicked example, proclaims there are many ways to God and eternal life. All religions, he has recently declared, have their route to salvation. He and those who teach this are calling the Lord Jesus Christ a liar.

Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father but by me.” (John 14: 6)

That you and I are within these perilous times at the precise moment prophesied for when Jesus calls all believers in the Rapture is abundantly clear. You don’t want to miss that call. To do so means you will endure the worst time of all human history, according to Christ Himself.

Here is how to instead go into the clouds of Glory to enjoy the wonders God has prepared for those who love Him.

That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and will believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9–10)

After 4 Years of The Left Targeting and Endangering Christians, It’s Time for A New Administration to Enter Office

As barricades and parade bleachers have gone up in Washington, D.C., so have the nation’s expectations for the incoming Trump administration to right what many see as the wrongs of the outgoing Biden administration — whether it’s the crisis at the southern border, transgender ideology targeting our youth, or the weaponization of government against its citizens.

That latter concern dominated the confirmation hearing last week for President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for attorney general, Pam Bondi.

On Wednesday, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley (R) honed in on the Biden Justice Department’s “unprecedented attack and campaign against people of faith.” Hawley asked Bondi, the former attorney general of Florida, whether she would reverse course on a weaponization that has trampled Americans’ rights, leaving them to fear their own government. Bondi committed to ending that hostility toward Christians.

Her pledge carries global importance. Over the last four years, our government’s oppression of Christians at home, along with failed foreign policies, have had deadly repercussions abroad. Two recent reports by organizations tracking religious persecution indicate a sharp rise in global violence against Christians. According to Open Doors International, 380 million Christians faced persecution and discrimination in 2024 — 15 million more than in 2023.

Another study from Global Christian Relief names Nigeria as the most dangerous country for Christians, with nearly 10,000 killed last year.

How does government hostility, combined with bad policy, translate to persecution overseas? Very simply. When our democratic government targets Christians here, repressive regimes — communist or Islamist — are emboldened to persecute believers even more aggressively.

Take Nigeria, for instance. In the final year of the previous Trump administration, I served as chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which tracks violations of religious freedom and advises our government. In 2020, after two decades of USCIRF recommending Nigeria be listed as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did just that, listing the Muslim-led country as a CPC for the first time. That label, under international religious freedom law, can lead to sanctions and other penalties by the United States. However, one of the first actions of the incoming Biden administration was to remove Nigeria from CPC status.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s justification was that it was not a religious freedom issue; rather, it was a climate change issue, and therefore, the designation was unnecessary.

The outcome of that policy change? The body count of Christian men, women, and children has steadily climbed, making Nigeria the world’s most perilous place to be a Christian.

Here’s the reality: the United States will lead, whether we like it or not, through the example we set. Protecting religious freedom at home, as our Constitution guarantees, indirectly benefits believers around the globe. Yet persecution has spread rapidly because of the Left’s policies and practices of hostility. The Trump administration and the new Congress must now tackle persecution and discrimination by not only safeguarding religious freedom here in America but also prioritizing it in our foreign policy.

The Left has been intentional in spreading its hostility toward the Christian faith. It’s time for America to be equally intentional in protecting and promoting this fundamental human right.

There Will Be a Planetary Alignment Of 6 Planets in The Sky the Day After Trump Is Inaugurated

Is it just a coincidence that there will be a major planetary alignment on January 21st? Just as Donald Trump returns to the White House, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will be aligning in the sky. This planetary alignment of 6 planets will occur the day after the 60th presidential inauguration in our history takes place. Of course there are many people out there that believe that the positioning of celestial objects is completely coincidental and could never possibly mean anything. But in Luke chapter 21, Jesus specifically warned us that there would be “signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars” during the times just before His return. And without a doubt, there certainly have been a lot of very unusual “signs in the sky” in recent years. Could it be possible that this is yet another “sign in the sky” that should be getting our attention?

I don’t have all the answers.

But hopefully I am asking some of the right questions.

It is being reported that six planets “will align in the sky” on January 21st…

The next planetary alignment will take place on January 21, 2025. In the evening, just after sunset, six planets — Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, and Saturn — will align in the sky. Four of these planets (Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) will be easily visible to the naked eye. You’ll need a telescope or high-powered binoculars to see Neptune and Uranus.

I was stunned when I first heard about this.

But that is not the end of the story.

Throughout the rest of this month and all of next month, all six planets will be visible in the night sky.

Then on February 28th, a seventh planet (Mercury) will join this “parade of planets”…

In January and February, we can witness this event taking place. The planets are not exactly lined up, so they will appear in an arc across the sky due to their orbital plane in the Solar System. During clear nights in January and February, all of the planets except Mercury will be visible – an event sometimes called a planetary parade. On 28 February, though – weather permitting – all seven planets will be visible, a great spectacle for observers on the ground.

“There is something special about looking at the planets with your own eyes,” says Jenifer Millard, a science communicator and astronomer at Fifth Star Labs in the UK. “Yes, you can go on Google and get a more spectacular view of all these planets. But when you’re looking at these objects, these are photons that have travelled millions or billions of miles through space to hit your retinas.”

Including Earth, there are only 8 planets in our solar system.

So all of the other 7 planets will be visible once we get to February 28th.

A “planetary parade” that includes all 7 of the other planets in our solar system is a very rare event, and I have no idea why this isn’t making more news.

But even if there were no “signs in the sky” at all, I would still be entirely convinced that the inauguration of Donald Trump is a pivotal moment in our history.

Our world is about to dramatically change, and nothing will ever be the same after this.

Of course there is always a lot of optimism whenever a presidential inauguration happens, and a CNN poll has found that 56 percent of Americans anticipate that Trump will do a “good job”…

President-elect Donald Trump will enter his second term in the White House with a majority of Americans both expecting him to do well and satisfied with the way he’s handled the transition into public office, according to a new poll.

A CNN survey released Thursday found 56% of Americans expect Trump to do a “good job” as the 47th president – up from 48% after his 2016 election win.

The poll also found 55% approve of the way the president-elect has handled his second transition – far higher than the 40% approval number he received eight years ago.

Needless to say, many on the left do not share this optimism.

Time Magazine is suggesting that those that are coping with grief on Inauguration Day should considering getting together with others for a good cry…

It might seem counterintuitive, but if you need to shed a few tears on Inauguration Day, it’s healthy to let them out with one caveat: You shouldn’t do it alone. “The grace and speed with which somebody recovers from grief if they have an opportunity to cry with the support of another person—someone who they trust and who they believe cares about them—is orders of magnitude improved,” Simon-Thomas says.

While research suggests crying alone isn’t overly helpful, crying around others often leads to comfort, support, empathy, and stronger social bonds. “It’s really, really beneficial to have that emotion in an honest, authentic way, and to reap the benefits we’re endowed with interpersonally.”

Seriously?

Time Magazine used to be respected around the world decades ago, but now it has become a sad joke.

Trump’s team plans to hit the ground running on January 20th, and we are being told that Trump will be signing more than 100 executive orders right away…

“Shock and awe,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., recently predicted after Republicans members of Congress received a preview of the activity to come.

Convinced he has an election “mandate” from American voters, Trump is planning to surpass the century mark in executive actions over his first few days of office after getting sworn in as the 47th president on Monday ‒ a moment he’s called a “liberation day for America.”

“There will be over 100 executive actions ‒ commands to the bureaucracies to change their ways,” Stephen Miller, Trump’s incoming deputy chief of staff for policy, told Fox News last week.

Yes, it really will be “shock and awe”, and there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth on the left.

But this is just the beginning.

As I discussed in a previous article, there are at least 5 historic emergencies that Trump will be faced with once he enters the White House.

The decisions that Trump makes over the next couple of months will have a major impact on the trajectory of global events.

Meanwhile, the positioning of the planets in the night sky will be clearly pointing to the fact that something truly unusual is taking place.

The Scoffers Will One Day Learn… Jesus’ Return Was Not an Empty Promise

Shortly before His arrest, Jesus assured His troubled disciples, “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2–3). The last promise in the entire Bible echoes this guarantee: “Surely I am coming quickly” (Revelation 22:20). The hope of Jesus’ Second Coming is precious to all Bible-believing Christians, as we long for all things to be made right.

However, it has been almost 2,000 years since Jesus promised to return. This fact produces a tension in believers who must by faith continue to hold to the words of Christ while they wait and hope that He will return during their lifetimes. Believers also must endure those who scoff at them for believing such a promise. Skeptics reason, He should have come back by now if He’s coming.

The apostle Peter predicted, “Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming?’” (2 Peter 3:3–4). The word scoffer refers to someone who mocks and makes fun of what they consider to be an empty and ridiculous promise. Scoffers ask, “Why does God delay? In a world of so much sorrow and trouble, why does God not come to fix it now?” In this same passage, Peter gave three reasons why it appears that Jesus delays His return.

1. God Has Reserved the Earth For A Specific Intervention Of God’s Judgment

Mockers will say, “For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation” (v. 4). This idea is based on a uniformitarian view of history and the natural world. But God reminds us that these mockers forget one major thing: God judged the earth by a cataclysmic, worldwide flood in Noah’s day: “The world that then existed perished, being flooded with water” (v. 6). It is simply not true that things continue as they always have.

With this former judgment by water in mind, God pivots to His plan for the earth in the future: “But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” (v. 7). In a sense, there is no delay on God’s part. He has appointed a specific time in the future when the world will be judged by fire.

When I was a boy, around 7 or 8 years old, one of my family members died. It was my first encounter with death (other than stepping on bugs). My parents explained to me what death meant. They also told me what this passage teaches: One day God destroyed the world in a flood, and one day He will destroy it with fire. My sensitive heart made me bawl like a baby, and I began to pray that my parents, my brother, and I would never die. Judgment is severe. God has reserved the earth for that future moment.

2. God Is Not Bound by Time Like We Are

Peter reminds us “that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (v. 8). Consequently, we cannot charge God with being slack or slow (v. 9).

Using the Bible, we can document how long God took to fulfill His promises. It took around three years for the death of Ahab that God promised to come about, approximately 15 years for the death of Jezebel, about 120 years for the Babylonian invasion of Judah predicted by Isaiah, 4,000 years for the First Coming of Messiah promised in Genesis 3:15, more than 560 years for the First Coming (and death) of Messiah prophesied in Daniel 9, more than 700 years for the prediction of Messiah’s death on the cross to be fulfilled from Isaiah 53, almost 40 years for Jesus’ prediction of the destruction of the Jewish Temple in Matthew 24, and 1,878 years from AD 70 to 1948 for the restoration of Israel.

God is outside of time. We are not. Thus, we experience all of these things in terms of a linear timeline. For God, all of these things are an instant. From His perspective, He is not delayed at all.

3. God Is Patient So That Many More Are Saved.

God “is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (v. 9). One reason Jesus has not yet returned is that He is waiting for more people to come to faith in Him. The word repentance implies a change of mind about sin and its solution. People must admit they are sinners and need a solution outside of themselves. As a result, they turn to Christ in faith (the flip side of repentance), trusting His work on the cross and His resurrection as the basis for their salvation. Without that, the alternative is to “perish,” a word signifying the horrible destiny of those who never make peace with God.

I came to faith in Christ on August 18, 1974. If Jesus had come back to Earth on August 17, 1974, where would I be? I thank God that He waited for me. And He may wait for you also. But a day is coming when the wait will be over—when Jesus returns. Are you ready for that day? Have you made peace with God by trusting Jesus as your Savior?

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States after being persecuted by the opposing party, the Democrat leaning news media, the Democrat controlled-courts, by the Democrat Administration and the Democrat-controlled Congress. Safe to say that no president in US history has undergone and survived the attacks of an opposing force as has Donald Trump. They impugned his character, lied about his deeds, interfered with his elections, falsely accused him, took away his businesses, drained him of his money and even tried to kill him. He overcame. Now they wear black, symbolic of attending the funeral of democracy. May it be that of their form of democracy disguised as communism.

Yes, folks. Communism. It has been battled here since Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt. The drip, drip, drip of communism masked as some sort of rally call for the ignorant—democracy. Their form of democracy is statism, where people vote in governments and they never leave. Others call it the deep state or administrative state, in any name it boils down to a form of communism that the Democratic Party has been gaslighting America about for decades. Donald Trump is the biggest threat to their definition of democracy since Ronald Reagan. Near the end of the Biden Administration, the neo-communists in the Democratic Party, flanked by Republicans In Name Only, pulled out all the stops to eliminate the threat to their ongoing conquest of America and coup of the Republic. Enough Americans wised up. It is now on Trump.

He is the Job (as in the Bible) President. After all this persecution and being falsely accused, he has been found worthy by the American people. He has asked the LORD what of it and it is as if the LORD responded as He did to Job (38:1-3), “Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,” Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.” Then Job answered that the LORD can do every thing, and that no thought can be withheld from him (42:2). Then the LORD said that His wrath was kindled against the accusers of Job because they “have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has. (42:7).” These accusers repented and Job prayed for the accusers, and the LORD restored to Job twice as much as he once had.

Trump promises to turn around this nation that has been nearly destroyed by the whirlwind of Democratic-communism. May it be so. But for the country to be fully restored, there must be repentance by the accusers and a change of heart to work together for the best of America—for all citizens. Realistically, we know that this likely will not happen. It is then up to us to rally around the Job President, exhort him to Godly wisdom and stand together in truth, and having done all, stand. Trump’s term will not be an easy one, for those seeking darkness and death will be unrelenting to tear down rather than build up. You have witnessed the hand of God giving America a chance to turn to Him. Let us be the light to show the way. May President Trump be God’s man in the White House. The Job President.

It was one thing for Mary to wash Jesus’ feet in John 12. But when Jesus washes His disciples’ feet in John 13, He blurs the lines between servant and master. He makes us rethink what it means to be great.

Washing feet was the job of the lowliest servants. It was unpleasant, for one thing. People walked great distances in Jesus’ day. In sandals. On dirty roads. That were used by animals too. And when they reached their destinations, their feet were not a pretty sight. Or smell.

It was humiliating as well. To wash someone’s feet, you had to kneel before that person. You had to assume a posture of a servant. You had to get your hands dirty.

So it was the perfect way for Jesus to show His disciples what it means to follow Him. One of the disciples’ favorite pastimes was arguing about which of them would be the greatest in God’s kingdom (see Matthew 18:1; Mark 10:35–45; Luke 22:24–27). By performing such a lowly task, Jesus communicated to them (and to everyone who follows Him), “This is what greatness really looks like. If you want to be My disciple, no act of service is beneath you. You can’t feed My sheep and feed your ego at the same time. The greatest in My kingdom are the quickest to humble themselves.” He wants His followers to be recognizable by our sacrificial love. This is especially important for people who want to be leaders. The most effective leaders are also the humblest servants.

Jesus’ humble act of service is even more amazing when you consider that one of the men whose feet He washed was about to betray Him and another was about to deny even knowing Him.

Jesus wasn’t blindsided by Judas Iscariot’s betrayal. He knew what was in His disciple’s heart. Judas’ treachery was part of God’s plan. And when Jesus announced that one of them would betray Him, Simon Peter was quick to show his “bold” discipleship. He motioned for John to ask Jesus who the traitor was. Maybe he figured it was up to him to stop the betrayal.

When Jesus told the group that He would be with them only a little while longer, they misunderstood. They thought He was going on a journey without them. Again, Peter had the boldest reaction. “‘But why can’t I come now, Lord?’ he asked. ‘I’m ready to die for you’” (verse 37 NLT).

He must have been stunned by Jesus’ reply: “Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter—before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me” (verse 38 NLT).

Discipleship involves more than bold words. It involves standing up when you really, really want to lay low. Refusing to abandon your convictions, even when people are ridiculing them. Coming alongside people others reject. Knowing what’s right and risking humiliation to defend it. Being willing to sacrifice whatever is important to you for Jesus’ sake.
