I have observed a growing trend among young dispensationalists to reject Zionism while embracing a superficial form of dispensationalism. This was highlighted to me once again the other morning on Telegram while reading a diatribe against Zionism penned by a young dispensationalist.
The False Dichotomy
Young dispensationalists reject the current state of Israel because it was birthed by Zionism, a movement which was and is, by and large, ungodly. They insist that God rejects the current nation and government of Israel because they are walking in unbelief. In their estimation, recognizing the current state of Israel is recognizing an Israel that God does not recognize. Supporting the current state of Israel is supporting an Israel that God does not support. Pointing to Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you,” to defend recognizing and supporting Israel is an exercise in futility. The true Israel that God recognizes is not manifested until the second coming.

It is often said that timing is everything, and that is certainly true when it comes to war with Iran. By October 27th, national elections will have been held in Israel to determine the 120 members of the twenty-sixth Knesset. The polls do not look good for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at all, and so he is probably going to be out of a job. Solving the “Iran problem” is the number one thing that Netanyahu wants to accomplish before he leaves, and so the clock is ticking. Even if there was some sort of a dramatic development that prevented the U.S. from attacking Iran, top Israeli officials have already warned that they would just go in anyway.
Of course it isn’t just the Israelis that are facing time pressure. Mid-term elections in the United States are scheduled for November 3rd, and history has shown us that they are often not kind to whichever party controls the White House. President Trump knows that if the Democrats end up taking control of the House and Senate his hands would really be tied at that point. He doesn’t want to leave the “Iran problem” to future administrations, and so he is highly motivated to act now.

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons” (Gal 4:4-5).

a fulfilling, keeping
Just consider how different the world might look today if global leaders truly understood how close we are to the end. I’m not suggesting they would need to be card-carrying Pre-Tribbers, but if they were confronted with something undeniable, something that made nearness of the end unmistakably clear.
Would they still govern the world the way they do now? Would wars and civil wars continue to be fought unchecked? Would nations still be locked in endless disputes over borders, resources, and power? Would the elite continue to hoard wealth, amass riches, and retreat into bunkers on remote, exotic islands? Would criminal and terrorist networks still flourish across nearly every corner of the planet?
Nearing Midnight – A Lamp Shining in a Dark Place

I love how the words of 2 Peter 1:19 compare Bible prophecy “to a lamp shining in a dark place.” Does that not fit perfectly with the day in which we live? I remember thinking the world was a “dark place” back in the 1990s, and it was, but it’s so much darker today.
Notice first how the verse begins, “And we have as more sure the prophetic word” (LSB). In the preceding verses, 2 Peter 1:16-18, Peter describes Jesus’ Transfiguration, where he witnessed His “majestic glory.” I’m sure that memory remained forever etched in the apostle’s memory for the rest of his life. And yet, he regarded the “prophetic word” of Scripture as a “more sure” guide to what lies ahead for us and the world.
Is that not a sharp contrast to many Christians who today trust their experiences above the words of Scripture? But not Peter. Although he witnessed firsthand Jesus’ future glory and a taste of His kingdom, he regarded God’s Word as a more reliable source of Bible prophecy.

President Donald Trump delivered what is being described as the longest State of the Union address in American history, a sweeping, unapologetic vision for the country’s future. It struck a confident tone about where America stands and where it is headed. I was reminded of the optimism that once filled the House chamber during the years of Ronald Reagan when I watched him deliver his state of the union speeches from the House gallery. There was a similar cadence of resolve. Trump laid out what he described as a year of significant progress despite relentless opposition from major news outlets and nearly unified resistance from congressional Democrats. The theme was unmistakable: America is back and stronger than ever.
Woven neatly with recognition of real Americans to underscore accomplishments, his speech was a ledger of policy victories. The president cited renewed tax cuts, citing that no Democrat voted for them, drawing visible applause from the Democratic side at that particular line. He pointed to cooling inflation, stronger job growth, expanded domestic energy production, tightened border enforcement, and new trade leverage abroad. He referenced rebuilding the military, standing with law enforcement, and accelerating American manufacturing. He highlighted faith initiatives, parental rights in education, and policies aimed at protecting minors from medical gender transitions without parental consent. Through much of it, Republicans and guests rose repeatedly. Democrats largely remained seated and stoic.
That contrast became the subtext of the night. Even when Trump called for unity around what he framed as basic responsibilities, such as protecting citizens and defending the nation, there was little visible bipartisan affirmation. When he asked who believed the first duty of government (as required by the Constitution) is to protect its people, Democrats did not stand or applaud. When he spoke of banning government-supported gender transitions for minors without parental consent, the silence across the aisle was striking. There were audible murmurs and scattered shouts of “liar.” When the gold medal–winning American men’s hockey team was recognized, only a handful of Democrats initially rose, and more stood only after the president pointed out their sitting. Sport has long been one of the last refuges of shared pride. Even that felt strained.
The defining moment came when Trump said, “But surely, we can all agree no state can be allowed to rip children from their parents arms and transition them to a new gender against the parents will… We must ban it and we must ban it immediately… Look, nobody stands up. These people are crazy… Democrats are destroying our country, but we’ve stopped it just in the nick of time.” Strong words in a divided age. Scripture reminds us of King Achish, who in 1 Samuel 21:15, said of David, “Have I need of madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence?”A nation does not need more madness in its councils. It needs wisdom, courage, and leaders who love country more than party.

I heard a story about a thief who broke into a house. He was looking around in the dark with his flashlight when he heard a voice say, “Jesus is watching you!” The thief nearly jumped out of his skin. He wondered, “Where did that voice come from?”
Again, he heard it. “Jesus is watching you!” Now the thief was terrified. He followed the sound of the voice with his flashlight and heaved a sigh of relief when he saw a parrot on a perch, who once again said, “Jesus is watching you!”
The thief laughed. Then he looked down, and at the foot of the parrot’s perch was a very large Doberman pinscher, baring his teeth.
The parrot looked down at the Doberman and said, “Sic ’em, Jesus.”
That’s a joke, of course. But there are people who believe that the Lord is out to get them or, at the very least, that He is against them.
It’s a lie, a common strategy of our spiritual enemy. Jesus said, “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44 NLT).
The suggestion that God is against us is an especially brazen lie—one intended to persuade people to keep their distance from the Lord. It’s brazen because it contradicts one of the most important truths of Scripture.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NLT).
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8 NLT).
“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (1 John 4:10 NLT).
“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first” (1 John 4:18–19 NLT).
Why would the Lord show such love and sacrifice so much if He were against us?
Many Christians refer to their conversion as “the day I found the Lord.” But that’s not quite accurate. The truth is, He wasn’t lost—we were. Certainly, one day we discovered a God who loved us. But God found us before we found Him. He chose us before we chose Him. Jesus sought us out as a shepherd looks for a lost sheep.
The truth is, no one is more for us than the Lord.
