An Analysis of Jeremiah’s Elam Prophecy: Currently Unfolding or Fulfilled In history?

Joel Rosenberg recently released a video in which he argued that the current war in Iran is a fulfillment of a Bible prophecy contained in Jeremiah 29. This is not a new discovery.
In 2014, Bill Salus published a book in which he suggested that a military attack on Elam might prove to be one of the end-time wars (Nuclear Showdown in Iran: Revealing the Ancient Prophecy of Elam, 2014).
Salus is what I call an “eschatological sleuth.” He searches the Scriptures for passages that have been overlooked or forgotten, which he believes relate to the end-times. He was the one who brought Psalm 83 back to serious consideration. The prophecy about Elam was his second “discovery.”

President Trump has repeatedly stated that the war with Iran is going to be quite short. But there is no way that he will be able to walk away if traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is paralyzed and Iran continues to hammer U.S. allies throughout the Middle East. Instead of seeking an end to the conflict after all of the bombing that they have endured, the Iranians are defiantly declaring that this war will be over when they say that it is over. CNN is reporting that the Iranians have actually begun mining the Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian missiles and drones continue to strike targets in Israel and elsewhere. This war is far from over, and the financial markets will soon realize that.
The unprecedented bombing campaign that we have been witnessing in Iran was supposed to force the Iranians to give up.
The U.S. military has already hit more than 5,000 targets, and U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told reporters that Tuesday was the “most intense day of strikes inside Iran” so far…

For decades, sociologists have tracked a quiet but dramatic shift in American life. Religion -- once the beating heart of communities across the country -- has slowly been moving to the margins. The latest numbers suggest that trend has now reached a historic milestone.
According to new data from Gallup, Americans with no formal religious identity -- often called the “nones” -- now make up 24% of the U.S. population, the highest level ever recorded. Just a few generations ago, that number was almost unimaginable. In 1948, only 2% of Americans identified this way.

Why the End Times Confuse So Many Christians
For a topic that occupies nearly a third of the Bible, the end times remain one of the most misunderstood areas of Scripture. Many Christians care deeply about God’s Word, attend church faithfully, and read their Bibles regularly, yet still feel uncertain when the conversation turns to prophecy. For some, the subject feels intimidating. For others, it feels divisive. For many, it simply feels overwhelming.
Conversations about the Rapture, the Tribulation, the Antichrist, the Millennium, or the eternal state can quickly become technical or emotionally charged. Instead of clarity, believers often walk away with more questions than confidence. But this confusion did not originate in Scripture itself. The Bible is not unclear about the future. The uncertainty has developed largely from how prophecy has been taught, presented, or avoided.

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations and later as National Security Advisor under Barack Obama, Susan Rice said she thought Democrats should take revenge on those who voted for President Trump. On a recent podcast Stay Tuned with Preet,hosted by former Democrat US Attorney Preet Bharara, Rice said, “Revenge is best served cold,’ and the older I get, the more I see the wisdom of that.” Rice warned that America may be drifting toward lawlessness under Trump. When a former national security advisor speaks, thoughtful citizens should listen and examine whether the alarm reflects constitutional breakdown or political frustration over lost power. But to suggest revenge signals a troubling direction.
When Democrats lose major elections, the public posture from many party leaders often skips past introspection. Rarely do we hear sustained reflection about messaging failures or policy disconnects with working families. Instead, the tone shifts toward crisis. Democracy is said to be in peril. Institutions are described as fragile. The implication is If voters selected the other side, something must be wrong beyond ordinary disagreement. That outlook reframes elections from instruments of accountability into symptoms of decay. It turns the electorate into suspects rather than decision-makers. In a constitutional republic, voters are not malfunctioning parts in a political machine. They are the final authority.
The contradiction sharpens when rhetoric enters the discussion. We are warned about the erosion of norms and the importance of defending the rule of law. Yet some of the same voices demand revenge or political payback. Peaceful protest is a protected right. Intimidation, harassment, and disruption that threaten public safety are not. Leaders understand the influence of their words. When prominent figures imply that political opponents deserve retribution, as Rice did, it deepens division and fuels distrust and dog whistles violence. Lawlessness rarely begins with shattered windows. It begins when neighbors are cast as enemies and when disagreement is treated as proof of moral corruption. That climate weakens civic confidence far more effectively than any executive order ever could.
Projecting dark motives onto millions of Americans because of how they vote assumes knowledge of the heart that none of us possess. It confuses policy differences with character flaws. A stable democracy requires conviction joined to humility. Citizens can debate immigration reform, executive authority, and constitutional limits without presuming wicked intent on the other side. Elections are not acts of betrayal. They are the expression of self-government. When leaders interpret electoral defeat as evidence of collective wrongdoing, they undermine the very democratic process they claim to protect. As Christ said in Luke 6:45, “For of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.” We can see what Rice and others are doing. The politics of projection reveals more about the speaker than the voter. It’s, say it with me, Stupidocrisy.
Daily Devotion: Dropped but Not Forgotten

Mephibosheth was only five years old when his father, Jonathan, and his grandfather, Saul, were killed on the battlefield. Imagine, if you will, life as he had known it up to that point. The privilege and potential of his pampered life as a prince could not have prepared him for the hard life he would face in the future. Mephibosheth enjoyed life in the palace as a young prince, with people waiting on him hand and foot. He enjoyed the further blessing of being raised by his godly father, Jonathan. Life was good for this young boy.
But there were dark clouds gathering in his world. In one moment, through no fault of his own, his entire life would change forever. His father, Jonathan, anticipated that things were going to change. That’s why he persuaded David to make an agreement to look out for his descendants after he was gone. He made David promise to show kindness to his family forever. David willingly made that promise, and he kept it.
When news hit the palace that Saul and Jonathan had been killed on the battlefield, the nurse who was caring for Mephibosheth, in her frenzied state, dropped the little boy on the ground. As a result, he was crippled for life.
Perhaps you’ve gone through hardships in your childhood. Maybe something traumatic has happened to you. Maybe you’ve been dropped in life, so to speak. Maybe you wonder if anything good can come out of your life. The answer is a resounding yes—thanks to God’s love, compassion, and mercy.
Mephibosheth was dropped in life, but God intervened. In fact, God specializes in taking people who have been dropped and picking them up again. God prompted David to ask, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” (2 Samuel 9:1 NLT).
And when David learned of Mephibosheth’s plight, he showed extraordinary kindness to the man who had suffered so much. Not only did David make sure that Mephibosheth was cared for and provided for, but he also made sure that his life had purpose and meaning. He gave Mephibosheth the land and servants of his grandfather. He invited Mephibosheth to dine at his table. Through David, God picked up the one who had been dropped. And if you’ve been dropped, God will do the same for you.
This story from 2 Samuel 9 offers comfort to those in need. But it also presents a challenge and opportunity to God’s people. Though we aren’t bound by a promise as David was, we have a responsibility to reach out to people in need. We have the opportunity to be instruments of God’s love and compassion to lift those who have been dropped.
