Are Ezekiel 38 and 39 In Armageddon?
By Bill Salus - https://www.raptureready.com/2025/07/15/are-ezekiel-38-and-39-in-armageddon-by-bill-salus/
On December 18, 2018, I posted a comprehensive article entitled Exploring the Timing of Ezekiel 38 and 39. It provided some basic arguments against Ezekiel’s prophecy happening as an Armageddon event. This article will attempt to further disconnect Ezekiel 38 and 39 from the Armageddon scenario.
Although it’s a minority view, there are a number of respected Bible teachers who teach the war in Ezekiel 38-39, Zechariah 14, and Revelation 19 are part of the same war that takes place as part of Armageddon. If they are correct, there arise a few potential problems, according to the biblical texts. These glitches will be addressed shortly, but beforehand, it’s important to understand what Ezekiel 38-39, Zechariah 14, and Revelation 19 are about.
Summary of Ezekiel 38 and 39
If you are unfamiliar with this prophecy, then you should read my easily understandable article entitled “An Overview of Ezekiel 38 and 39.”
In a nutshell, the Magog invasion involves a large coalition led by Russia, Turkey, and Iran, whose purpose is to conquer Israel to take plunder and booty. According to Ezekiel 38:8-13, Israel will be a much greater, safer, and wealthier nation at that time. Unlike the embattled Israel of today, Israel at that future time will be a thriving nation dwelling in a condition of peace and security.
This invasion infuriates God, Who then divinely defeats these invaders. As per Ezek. 38:19-22, this confederacy will be stopped supernaturally by a great earthquake followed by flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
Zechariah 14:1-3
“Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle” (Zech. 14:1-3).
This prophetic passage above describes a highly successful and devastating siege of Jerusalem. God will “gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem.” Subsequently, after the severe damage has been done, “the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations.” Revelation 19:11-21 explains how, single-handedly, Jesus Christ conquers these armies. Thus, Zech. 14:1-3 and Rev. 19:11 pair up together as integral parts of the Armageddon scenario.
“Now out of His (Jesus Christ’s) mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” (Rev. 19:15, NKJV; emphasis added).
The Problems with Connecting Ezekiel 38-39 with Zechariah 14 and Revelation 19
With this basic understanding presented above, let’s identify the potential problems with pairing Ezekiel 38-39 up with Zechariah 14 and Revelation 19. If we attempt to align the biblical details within these various passages together, the unlikely scenario below occurs.
When the people of Israel are living in peace (Ezek. 38:14), all the nations of the earth’s armies (Zech 14:2) led by Russia, Turkey, Iran and the rest of the Magog invaders (Ezek. 38:2-6), will attack Jerusalem in Israel (Ezek. 38:15-16, Zech. 14:2). When this battle happens God will be extremely angered, and we are told His “fury will show in His face” (Ezek. 38:18-19).
So, how will God then unleash His blazing anger toward the armies on the day they invade Israel and attack the city of Jerusalem? Shockingly, HE WILL GATHER all the remaining world armies, that are separate from the already invading Magog nations, and bring them to attack Jerusalem to successfully capture the holy city of Jerusalem (Zech. 14:2).
“For I WILL GATHER all the nations to battle against Jerusalem” (Zech. 14:2a, NKJV; emphasis added).
These additional armies are headed by the beast, a.k.a, Antichrist (Rev. 19:19). Then, the Lord allots some time for the armies to loot houses and rape women in Jerusalem. The Lord also allows the armies some more time to take half of the population of Jerusalem and send them into exile (Zech. 14:2). Then, after all this heinous and despicable behavior, the Lord finally decides, “enough already,” and deploys Jesus Christ to single-handedly “go out to fight against those nations” (Zech. 14:3, Rev. 19:15-21, Ezek. 38:18-22).
This scenario does not only seem insensitive, but nonsensical! It makes God out to be a maniacal monster. Instead of unleashing immediate divine judgment upon the Magog invaders, God gathers additional international troops and gives Antichrist the keys to the holy city. NO, when the Magog Invasion happens and infuriates the Lord, this is what promptly takes place, according to Ezekiel.
“For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’
“’I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,’ says the Lord God. ‘Every man’s sword will be against his brother. And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord’” (Ezek. 38:19-23).
Ezekiel declares, “Surely in that day… all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence.” This is not what happens in Zech. 14:2, when the armies of the earth conduct war crimes in Jerusalem and successfully besiege the holy city.
Some of the problems encountered by including Ezekiel 38-39 alongside Zechariah 14 and Revelation 19 as part of Armageddon are identified below.
Problem #1 – Two different and uncoordinated fronts, motives, and commanders
If Ezekiel 38-39 are part of Armageddon, this would mean that at the time of Armageddon Israel will face a massive two-front attack. The first front has the Magog invaders attacking Israel from the north (Ezek. 38:15) upon the mountains of Israel (Ezek. 38:8). They’re motivated to conquer Israel for plunder and booty (Ezek. 38:8-13). The Magog invaders are commanded by a Russian leader with an evil plan (Ezek. 38:10).
Meanwhile on the second front, all the nations of the earth’s armies are attacking Jerusalem. They are ransacking homes, ravishing women, and taking control of the holy city (Zech. 14:2). They are motivated to kill Israelis in the city of Jerusalem. Their mission is to commit Jewish genocide (Zech. 13:8). The earth’s armies are being led by the evil dictator, Antichrist (Rev. 19:19-20).
Problem #2 – Two different results
The war of Armageddon, if it includes Ezekiel 38-39, is entirely unsuccessful. These invaders are killed (Ezek. 38:19-23). Their weapons are converted into fuel for Israeli cities for seven years (Ezek. 39:9-10). Their corpses are buried for seven months (Ezek. 39:12-14).
On the other hand, the war of Armageddon in Zechariah 14 is totally successful. Jerusalem will be conquered, the houses get rifled, and the women ravished. Also, half of the city goes into captivity (Zech. 14:2).
Problem #3 – Two different defeats and burial locations
Gog, along with his hordes are destroyed supernaturally by God by a great earthquake followed by flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone (Ezek. 38:19-22). Then, they and Gog are buried in a place called the “Valley of Hamon Gog,” which means “valley of the Hordes of Gog.” Make note that Gog gets killed (Ezek. 39:11). This future cemetery is apparently named after Gog to memorialize God’s supernatural victory.
The Armageddon Campaign is defeated solely by Jesus Christ at His Second Coming by a “sharp sword” (Rev. 19:15). Perhaps this alludes typologically to a divine military scenario rather than through the natural disasters in Ezekiel 38. Moreover, the Antichrist is not killed but is cast alive into the “Lake of Fire” (Rev. 19:20).
Conclusion
The biblical text does not support the pairing of Ezekiel 38-39 with Zechariah 14 and Revelation 19 as an Armageddon related event. Thus, Ezekiel 38-39 happens at a separate time.
In my article entitled Exploring the Timing of Ezekiel 38 and 39, mentioned at the top of this piece, I present the case that Ezekiel 38-39 happens prior to the Tribulation Period. The article also put forward a few more reasons why Ezekiel 38-39 is not an Armageddon event. Below is an excerpt from this article that points this out.
“It is unlikely that Ezekiel 38-39 will happen during the Armageddon Campaign, which occurs within the second half of the Tribulation Period, for the following reasons:
1. Israelis will be fleeing from the genocidal attempt of the Antichrist.
2. Israelis will not likely be burning the enemies’ weapons.
3. Israelis gain world renown after Ezekiel 38, and that will not be the case during this part of the Tribulation period.
The second half of the Tribulation period is a time when the Jewish people are fleeing from the genocidal exploits of the Antichrist. Zechariah 13:8 informs that two-thirds of the Jews living in the land of Israel will be killed. Thus, the Jewish population living in Israel will be reduced to a third of its size at that time. This implies several things.
First, they will not be in a position to capitalize on the weapons of the Magog invaders to convert them into energy for seven years. This is a process and requires facilities, and any surviving Israeli Jews that attempt to undertake this activity will become easy targets for the Antichrist to find and kill.
“’Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years. They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them,’ says the Lord God” (Ezek. 39:9-10).
Second, this one-third remnant of Israel will not be able to fulfill another aftermath activity of Ezekiel 39, which is to bury the dead Magog invaders for seven months. Between the burning of the enemy weapons for seven years and the burying the dead for seven months, Israel gains world renown for these two aforementioned endeavors.
“’It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog. For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land. Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,’ says the Lord God” (Ezek. 39:11-13).
These verses clearly state that Israelis gain world renown for these activities, but that won’t be the case when the Antichrist, with the support of much of the world masses, attempts to eliminate the Jewish race. Rather than gaining world renown, they will be experiencing persecution and worldwide Antisemitism!” (End of the excerpt).
Mystery Babylon, Mother of Harlots
by Jack Kinsella - https://pastormiketaylor.blogspot.com/2017/03/mystery-babylon-mother-of-harlots.html
Pretty much every time I publish a column in which I note that the Bible is silent insofar as any mention of a fifth, overarching superpower resembling America, I get a flood of emails telling me where I went wrong.
Invariably, they identify the entity called Mystery Babylon, Mother of Harlots as the United States of America. One reader emailed yesterday, saying;
"O come on!! America is talked about in the Bible, New York city gets nuked (Revelation 17 &18). How else did you think the anti-christ takes over the world economy with his new system…the mark of the beast to buy & sell.
One key to this (there are many) is Rev: 18 verse 11 &12. The seventh and eighth have not risen to power but in Revelation 13 it explains a little about them and the mark of the beast. Please open your eyes it's all so plain to see!"
The problem here is one of wishful thinking. I would very much like to find evidence of America in the Scriptures for the last days, since I am in America and these ARE the last days. If America plays no role in the Tribulation, and we can see the Tribulation just over the horizon, then logic dictates something happens to America before it begins.
Since, on this side of the Tribulation, America is the world's undisputed superpower, making it 'go away' (as the Bible indicates that it must) suggests that 'something' is ALSO sitting just over the horizon, somewhere before the kickoff to the Tribulation Period. And it must be pretty bad.
For that reason, I wish my correspondent was right; I wish it was, 'all so plain to see' America in the end times scenario.
What IS plain to see is that America ISN'T Babylon the Great.
Assessment:
Insofar as Mystery Babylon is concerned, the Scriptures identify it as Rome. An examination of relevant passages lend themselves to no other defensible conclusion:
"And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. " (Revelation 17:7)
That is the political 'beast' first described by the Prophet Daniel and identified in Daniel 9:26 as the 'prince of the [Roman] people' who destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70.
Political Rome collapsed in the 5th century, but its political influence remained, carried on through the papal church headquartered in Rome. That isn't 'anti-Catholic bashing' it is secular history.
During the height of its power, no European king could take his throne without Papal approval. Those who dared defy the Pope's power faced the Pope's armies.
The power of the papacy waned, but continued to directly influence European politics until the mid-part of the 20th century, when that power began to shift away from religious Rome and back toward the political center, codified by the 1957 treaty of Rome.
As a continuous power, one could argue that Rome was, then wasn't, yet is.
But one could NOT argue credibly that Rome's influence ever ceased to be felt throughout the history of the Church Age.
"The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is."
The modern city of Rome is famed throughout the world as the 'City on the Seven Hills'.
Of 'Mystery Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and the abominations of the earth', the revealing angel tells us this:
"And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth." (Revelation 17:7-10)
Speaking of the antichrist, he is identified with Rome in the next verse as,
"And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition."
Speaking of the Mother of Harlots situated on 'seven mountains' the angel says;
"the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." (Revelation 17:18)
In John's day, and in the centuries that have passed since, no other city could have been said to have reigned over the kings of the earth EXCEPT Rome.
Revelation Chapter 13 makes it clear that the government of the antichrist is both political, and religious. There are two beasts of Revelation 13 -- the first is the political beast, the one we call the antichrist, who appears in 13:1 and a second beast, called the False Prophet, who makes his appearance in verse 11.
The Babylon depicted in Revelation 17 is the religious system of antichrist, which is headquartered on the 'city on the seven mountains' The Babylon of Revelation 18 encompasses both the religious and political systems, as embodied by the literal city.
Revelation 18:3 refers to the religious Rome that existed between the fall of the Roman Empire and the mid 20th century. That is a reference to the religious, rather than secular, is confirmed by the next verse, which says, "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." (4)
If this is a reference to America, or any political entity, what sense does THAT make? How does one 'come out of America'? Move? Where? The Bible doesn't say, so why bring it up?
Because one CAN 'come out' of a religion, and since God frames it by saying, "that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues," the context makes it clear He is referring to a religious system, not a political city.
Those who equate Babylon to America point to Revelation 18:9;
"And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning," arguing this must be New York City because "all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!"
It MUST be New York City, because it is a 'great city' whose burning can be witnessed from sea, they argue. It MUST be America because America is the great whore who produces most of the porn, consumes most of the cocaine, and is the richest country the world has ever known.
America has existed 226 years. It has been a superpower for 45 years and the world's premiere superpower for 15 years. Rome's power has continued to influence global politics and religion without interruption for the last two thousand years.
In addition, Mystery Babylon is called a 'mystery' to denote the spiritual nature of the political system. It is a reincarnation of the Babylonish counterfeit system of Nimrod, Semiramus and Tammuz -- essentially a goddess cult with a father god figure and a child god figure. America acknowledges only a generic 'God'.
The city 'Babylon' that is destroyed in Revelation 18 gives another important proof that Babylon can't be America.
The Roman coliseums were filled with captives from the known world fighting as gladiators. When the gladiator games ended, then the slaughter of the Christians would begin. The Apostle Paul was martyred in Rome.
"And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth." (18:24)
One can argue America is no less blood-soaked, but one can hardly characterize America's 'victims' as 'prophets' or 'saints'. (Mostly they were Indians, Mexicans and African blacks taken as slaves)
The Bible says there are four spheres of world power in the last days. Gog-Magog, the revived Roman Empire of antichrist, the Kings of the East and the Kings of the South. Since there is no reference to America, one person's guess is as good as another's as to where she might have gone.
Rome played a central role in the history of civilization from John's day until this very moment. It is about twelve miles from Rome to the coast of the Meditterranean Sea.
Occam's razor is a logical principle attributed to the mediaeval philosopher William of Occam (or Ockham). His principle of logic states that one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
Put more simply, Occam's Razor dictates the most obvious answer to a given question is usually the correct one. America doesn't sit on seven hills. It hasn't exerted continuous global influence throughout Church history.
And America isn't drunken with the blood of the martyrs. One can't say the same about Rome in either its secular political or religious incarnations.
I wish it WERE so simple.

“The Year Of The Flood”: A Dozen “1,000 Year Floods” In 3 Days Were Quickly Followed By Historic Flooding In New York And New Jersey
2025 has certainly turned out to be a year that has been filled with chaotic natural disasters. In particular, we have been hammered by one major flooding event after another in recent weeks. A couple of days ago, I wrote about the “1,000 year storms” that hit Texas and North Carolina. As you will see below, those storms produced a dozen “1,000 year floods” in just 3 days. Even seasoned meteorologists were stunned by that. And then on Monday we witnessed terrifying flooding in New York and New Jersey. So is even more flooding in our future?
According to WPLG-TV meteorologist Michael Lowry, 2025 is “the year of the flood”, and he has noted that so far this year the National Weather Service has “issued more flood warnings than any other year on record”…
“2025 has been the year of the flood,” said WPLG-TV meteorologist Michael Lowry in a July 15 email to USA TODAY. “The tragic July 4th flooding in central Texas – the deadliest flash flood in at least 50 years in the U.S. – punctuated what’s been an especially bad year for flooding across the country.”
In fact, “so far in 2025, National Weather Service offices have issued more flood warnings than any other year on record dating back to 1986,” Lowry said.
All throughout history, there have always been floods.
In fact, there have been times when particular areas have been flooded quite dramatically.
But we have never seen anything quite like this.
In 2025, it feels like the entire country is getting deluged.
A “1,000 year flood” is supposed to be rare, but we just witnessed a 3 day period when Texas and North Carolina both experienced multiple “1,000 year floods”…
More than a dozen “1,000-year floods” in just three days. That number has stunned even veteran meteorologists. From Texas to North Carolina, entire communities were swamped by what should have been once-in-a-lifetime events.
But experts say these floods are no longer freak accidents. They are a symptom of a much bigger shift.
A “1,000-year flood” does not mean it only happens once every thousand years. It means there is a one in one thousand chance of that kind of rainfall happening in any given year. Still rare, but clearly not impossible. And lately, not even uncommon.
Even our top experts are struggling to explain what just occurred.
For example, the following comes from an Accuweather article entitled “How did we get a dozen ‘1,000-year floods’ in 3 days?”…
For home insurance purposes, a 100-year flood means that there is a 1 percent chance of that flood happening in any given year at your home’s location. A 1,000-year flood would be a 0.1 percent chance, so in 1,000 years, you’d expect 1 such flood to occur. But statistics don’t dictate when during that period the floods will occur, and the floods could happen in rapid succession without violating the rule.
These flood statistics are based on how often the nearest USGS river gauge (there are about 7,500 nationwide) would exceed a certain amount of water flowing past it, based on records at those stations that go back as far as 175 years.
I think that what they are trying to say is that what we just witnessed is highly unusual.
And highly unusual events just continue to happen.
In fact, on Sunday morning the water level in one river in Texas suddenly surged “more than 30 feet in just a few hours”…
Officials in Kempner are on high alert after the Lampasas River surged more than 30 feet in just a few hours Sunday morning, following heavy overnight rainfall upstream.
“We received an alert this morning, around 4:30, that major flooding was possible and headed our way,” said Captain Todd Burkett with the Kempner Volunteer Fire Department.
According to Burkett, the river’s rise was swift and dangerous. “The water kept rising as we were out surveying the bridges,” he said. “It had rose over two foot in 20 minutes.”
And then on Monday, New York City was hit by the second-wettest hour that it has ever experienced…
The Big Apple experienced its second-wettest hour in history as torrential rain drenched the city overnight — with terrifying footage showing straphangers trapped on subways by the freak flash flooding.
“New York City picked up a hair over 2 inches last night — 2.07 inches to be exact — making it the second wettest single hour ever recorded in the city,” FOX Forecast Center meteorologist Christopher Tate told The Post on Tuesday of the rainfall recorded between 6:51 p.m. and 7:51 p.m. in Central Park.
“It was bested only by the nearly 3 inches of rain that fell in New York City during the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in 2021.”
By now, you have probably already seen footage of the chaos that all of that water created.
At one point, floodwaters came roaring through a subway station in Manhattan…
Shocking video showed water rushing into the subway system in Manhattan during Monday night’s downpours.
Video captured by an eyewitness at 23rd Street and 28th Street on the No. 1 train line showed the water even rushing into the subway car as riders stood on the seats to avoid the water.
“What happened last night is something that is a reality for our system that when you hit, when you go north, an inch and three-quarters in an hour, the city sewer system, the storm water system gets backed up and gets overwhelmed and tunnels into the stations,” said MTA CEO and Chair Janno Lieber.
New Jersey was hit extremely hard as well.
The damage was so bad that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy actually declared a state of emergency…
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency on Monday night amid the ongoing downpour.
‘I am declaring a State of Emergency given flash flooding and high levels of rainfall in parts of the state,’ he said.
‘Please stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Stay safe, New Jersey.’
Unfortunately, not everyone made it through the flooding safely…
At least two people were killed in New Jersey after flash flooding swept away their vehicle during a storm that pounded the Northeast with heavy rains, authorities said Tuesday.
The two deaths happened in the northern New Jersey city of Plainfield, when the rushing waters of a brook carried away their vehicle during the height of the storm, city officials said. Their names were not immediately released to the public.
What we have been witnessing is just crazy.
This week alone I have written about major flooding events in Texas, North Carolina, New Mexico, Illinois, Vermont, New York and New Jersey.
And it is being reported that at one stage on Monday there were over 50 million Americans that were under some sort of a flood warning…
Throughout the Northeast, more than 50 million Americans are now under varying levels of flood warnings.
Shocking footage of the deluge has started circulating on social media, showing gas stations overrun with water, and cars submerged in floodwaters.
Have we ever experienced a “national flooding crisis” before?
I can’t recall anything like this in my entire lifetime.
I know that I keep saying this, but what we are witnessing is not even close to normal.
After what we have been through the past week, hopefully more people are starting to understand that.
Torch-Lighters, Modern Israel, and the Rapture
By Jonathan Brentner - https://www.raptureready.com/2025/07/12/torch-lighters-modern-israel-and-the-rapture-by-jonathan-brentner/
I believed he had disparaged the Rapture as well as those of us who watch for Jesus’ imminent appearing; so, later that day, I wrote an email to the associate pastor asking him about his morning sermon on John 11.
He denied doing so but responded by telling me that after a previous pastor took him through the Bible passages supporting the pre-Tribulation Rapture and premillennialism, he adopted those beliefs. However, after reading a couple of books authored by amillennialists, those who don’t believe in a literal thousand-year reign of Jesus, he adopted their view of the Millennium and added that he no longer believed in the Rapture.
In other words, when this assistant pastor relied on Scripture, he believed in Jesus’ imminent appearing and a literal fulfillment of Revelation 20:1-10. But when guided by human wisdom, he adopted a spiritual interpretation of John’s words concerning the Lord’s thousand-year reign.
The Prophet Isaiah made a startling comparison between those who trust the Lord’s guidance, the words of Scripture, versus those who walk by the light that they themselves generate (by their own insight or wisdom):
“Who among you fears the Lord
and obeys the voice of his servant?
Let him who walks in darkness
and has no light
trust in the name of the Lord
and rely on his God.
Behold, all you who kindle a fire,
who equip yourselves with burning torches!
Walk by the light of your fire,
and by the torches that you have kindled!
This you have from my hand:
you shall lie down in torment” (Isaiah 50:10-11).
At the end of a chapter full of references to the Messiah, the prophet contrasts those who rely on God versus those who walk by their own light or understanding.
Despite the many warnings of judgment that came through the Prophet Isaiah along with circumstances that already seemed dire, Isaiah urged the people to remain confident in the Lord rather than rely on their own insight into the future of Israel.
Torch Lighting
Do you see how this applies to our day? The path to unbiblical teaching always begins with those who illuminate their paths with their own wisdom rather than the light that comes from the words of Scripture. How many times have we heard people say that Jesus is not the only way to eternal life, despite the clarity of what He said in John 14:6?
In my dealings with those who adhere to the various forms of amillennialists, I have discovered a consistent reliance on their own interpretations of Bible prophecy rather than the words of the prophets and apostles. Some believe that the nation’s rejection of their Messiah negated God’s promises to the Jewish people (despite the clarity of Romans 11:1-2). Others assert that the church is the continuation of Israel and thus heir to all the promises the Lord made to the nation.
Both camps dismiss modern Israel’s place in Bible prophecy, and based upon that assumption, they retrofit all the Scriptures that say otherwise to fit their own understanding of Israel and the church. They illuminate their self-guided journey through Bible prophecy rather than follow the advice of the Psalmist: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).
Retrofitting Bible Prophecy
In order to support their view of Bible prophecy, they must change the original intent of what the prophets wrote about the future restoration of Israel. With the well-known messianic prophecy of Isaiah 9:6-7, they must change mid-sentence from a literal interpretation to one based on the erroneous premise that the church is the new Israel.
How would the initial readers of Isaiah’s prophecy have regarded phrases such as “the government will be upon his shoulder?” Would they not have pictured a literal kingdom when they heard the promise that the Messiah would sit upon the “throne of David?” Of course, they would’ve pictured a physical realm. What other option was there?
When Gabriel announced the Savior’s birth to Mary, she would not have pictured a spiritual reign when the Lord promised that her Son “would reign over the house of Jacob forever” (Luke 1:29-33). How could she have possibly understood the angel’s words apart from a literal restored kingdom of Israel? On what basis could she have envisioned a spiritual realm rather than one with a visible King ruling over “the house of Jacob?” The Lord, through His angel Gabriel, promised Mary that her Son would one day rule over a united Israel.
How can those who deny Israel’s place in Bible prophecy make the following verses fit with the church without doing irreparable damage to the plain sense of God’s Word?
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land” (Ezekiel 36:22-24).
The remainder of Ezekiel 36 makes it abundantly clear that the Lord is promising a physical restoration for Israel in spite of the past behavior of its people. These things can’t possibly refer to the church.
And how do the modern torch-lighters interpret Amos 9:14-15, which also specifies a future restoration of Israel?
“I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
I will plant them on their land,
and they shall never again be uprooted
out of the land that I have given them,”
says the Lord your God.
In the above text, the Lord promises a physical restoration of Israel from which its people will “never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them.” Has that ever happened to Israel? On what basis can anyone change the Lord’s intent to a spiritual message for the church?
Consider the words of Jeremiah 31:35-36:
“Thus says the Lord,
who gives the sun for light by day
and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—
the Lord of hosts is his name:
‘If this fixed order departs
from before me,’ declares the Lord,
‘then shall the offspring of Israel cease
from being a nation before me forever.’”
Could the Lord be any clearer about the enduring place of Israel as a nation in His sight? How can one read these verses and then claim that modern Israel has no place in Bible prophecy? The Lord says otherwise.
The words of Hosea 3:4-5, taken in the way that the Lord intended, verify that the Israel of today is the beginning of the fulfillment of what God promised to His people long ago::
“For the children of Israel shall dwell many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or household gods. Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.”
The above passages are just a sampling from God’s Word that point to the future restoration of a kingdom for Israel. Dozens of Psalms, along with all the major prophets and most of the minor ones, tell of Israel’s restoration with many providing details of Jesus’ reign over the nations during a time when wars no longer exist and the peoples obey and serve Him.
Yes, there are verses that, taken by themselves, might suggest that Jesus was the culmination of all of God’s saving purposes for both Jews and Gentiles. However, such interpretations contradict a multitude of Old Testament passages that specify Israel’s never-ending place in Bible prophecy. There are viable and credible ways to interpret New Testament verses, such as those in Galatians, which don’t negate God’s Old Testament promises to the Jewish people. Scripture must interpret Scripture.
People and Place
People and place. Those words confirm modern-day Israel’s place in Bible prophecy. Notice how both people and place factor into Daniel’s seventy weeks prophecy:
“Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place” (Daniel 9:24).
This prophecy concerns Daniel’s “people,” the Jewish people, and the “holy city,” Jerusalem. People and place. Yes, both played a role in Jesus’ atonement for “iniquity.” But according to the above verse, both the Jewish people and Jerusalem will also play an essential role in bringing “everlasting righteousness” to the earth, which clearly has not yet happened.
Several scholars have calculated that the first 69 weeks of years of Daniel’s prophecy ended precisely on the day Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem after which, according to the prophecy, “an anointed one shall be cut off” (Daniel 9:26). The Lord told Daniel that there would be gap of time before the last week during which time a coming prince would defile the temple in Jerusalem (Daniel 9:26).
Has the seventieth week of Daniel’s prophecy happened? No, it has not. We know that this last period of seven years hasn’t yet occurred because the key event of Daniel 9:27, the defiling of the temple, has never occurred since the time Jesus referred to it in Matthew 24:15.
In a previous article, The Biblical Necessity of the Seven-Year Tribulation, I demonstrate why it’s impossible for Titus to have fulfilled this prophecy in AD 70, which signifies that the prophesied desecration of the temple awaits a future fulfillment. And since the key event of the seventieth week has never happened, the Lord’s purpose for the entire seventy weeks remains intact (Daniel 9:24).
God redemptive purposes for the Jewish people and the place, Jerusalem, remain firmly in place.
The belief that modern Israel has no place in Bible prophecy is extremely popular in churches today, even in many that profess to believe in the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. God’s Word, however, tells a different story.
Israel’s miraculous reappearance as a nation is not only the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, but also the key sign that we live in the last days leading up to Daniel’s seventieth week, the seven-year Tribulation.
Don’t let the modern torch-lighters dim your hope of Jesus’ imminent appearing. Those who dismiss modern Israel’s place in Bible prophecy, without fail, also refuse to recognize the Rapture as a unique event.
We didn’t invent our “blessed hope” in Jesus’ appearing (Titus 2:11-14). Our belief comes from the words of passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, 1 Corinthians 15:47-55, Philippians 3:20-21, Revelation 3:10-11a, and many more. Don’t let the naysayers diminish the light that comes from the promises of these passages.
Scripture not only lights our path to understanding modern Israel’s vital role in Bible prophecy, but it also illuminates the way to the pre-Tribulation Rapture.
In Invitation to a Lavish Feast – Wisdom’s Path to the Pre-Tribulation Rapture, I take the reader on a journey showing how the words of Scripture verify our beliefs in not only the restoration of Israel, but also our hope in Jesus’ soon appearing to take us home to glory. I demonstrate how those who deny these things stray far from the path of biblical wisdom revealed throughout the Bible and, in essence, light their own path through Bible prophecy.

Daily Jot: Stupidocrisy: Dems signal a coming storm of nasty gaslighting
Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com
The “Big Beautiful Bill” (BBB) is shaping up to be one of the most consequential pieces of legislation for the American people in a generation. It delivers targeted, tangible benefits to workers, seniors, and small businesses—yet Democrats and their media echo chamber are doing everything they can to convince Americans it’s a disaster. What’s really going on here is a masterclass in gaslighting, where facts are buried under fear, and benefits are branded as betrayal. The Democrats’ strategy heading into the 2026 midterms is clear: demonize the BBB, punish President Trump, and discredit the will of the people who put him and a Republican majority in power. This gaslighting will be a constant drumbeat for over a year.
At its core, the BBB provides a clear lift for ordinary Americans: Working-class families will see more take-home pay through the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime; Senior citizens get a substantial Social Security tax exemption—individuals keeping an additional $6,000, couples up to $12,000—allowing 88% of seniors to avoid taxes on their benefits entirely; Middle-income families gain an expanded child tax credit and higher standard deductions, with some households seeing effective tax cuts of 16%; Small businesses, the backbone of the American economy, benefit from a permanent extension of the 20% pass-through deduction, first introduced in the Trump tax cuts. In addition, many of the popular Trump policies on immigration reform, government accountability, national and border security, and tax reductions become law.
They are real-world changes that immediately impact everyday Americans—especially those long ignored by Washington’s elite class. But instead of acknowledging these historic reforms, Democrats are in full-blown panic mode. Progressive firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exploded over the bill, warning it would make current economic conditions “look like child’s play.” The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has already branded the legislation the “Big Ugly Bill,” rolling out a multi-million-dollar messaging blitz that aims to vilify the very relief Americans just received. There’s no constructive policy coming from the left—only resistance. No counter-legislation, no competing tax plan, no alternative for seniors or small businesses. Just rage. Their complicit media shills will amplify the negative, while ignoring the benefits.
Outlets have already led with claims that 10 to 12 million may lose Medicaid coverage, deficit projections, and warnings about benefits to the wealthy, while carefully leaving out what the bill actually does for lower- and middle-income Americans. Make no mistake: this is the same psychological operation we saw during COVID. Back then, fear ruled the day. Today, it’s political fear designed to overwhelm your senses, distort your judgment, and trick you into rejecting what’s in your best interest. Proverbs 22:3 says, “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple pass on and suffer for it.” Now is the time to double down on discernment. This is not just a political battle. It’s a test of whether common sense can still cut through the noise. Stay sharp. Stay free. Anything less is, say it with me…Stupidocrisy.
Daily Devotion: The Truth About God’s Judgment
by Greg Laurie – www.harvest.org
On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: ‘Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!’ The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.
—Jonah 3:4–5
https://harvest.org/resources/devotion/the-truth-about-gods-judgment/ - Listen
The Old Testament prophet Jonah very reluctantly went to the city of Nineveh to warn that God was going to judge its people in forty days. Jonah was reluctant because he understood God’s nature. He knew that if the Ninevites repented, God would forgive them and spare them His judgment.
That’s not the outcome Jonah was rooting for. He hated the Ninevites and wanted to see them face God’s judgment. Jonah understood that he served a merciful and loving God. The fact that God was sending him to warn the Ninevites to repent instead of just judging them was evidence of His compassion and concern.
Sure enough, Jonah’s worst-case scenario became a reality. The people of Nineveh repented from their sins and the king commanded his subjects to “pray earnestly to God” (Jonah 3:8 NLT). As a result, God lifted His judgment from the people of Nineveh.
People in our culture today would have you believe that the God of the Bible is a vengeful deity who revels in His power to bring death and destruction on anyone who dares to disobey Him. Scripture itself paints a different picture.
The God of the Bible is holy and just. Sin cannot exist in His presence. And He demands that all sin be punished. In Romans 6:23, the apostle Paul tells us that the punishment for sin is death. But the God of the Bible is also loving in a way that we cannot fully comprehend. He sent His Son to take the punishment we deserve for our sin and to die in our place. God sacrificed His Son so that anyone who believes in Him can escape judgment and have eternal life.
In Ezekiel 33:11, God said, “I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live” (NLT). The apostle Peter, in talking about why Jesus hasn’t returned yet, said, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent” (2 Peter 3:9 NLT).
Everyone has sinned, so everyone deserves God’s punishment. If you receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you receive eternal life in Heaven with Him because your punishment has already been taken by Him. If you reject Him, you will face God’s punishment yourself—that is, eternal separation from Him.
God has gone to unimaginable lengths to save you from His punishment. The next step is yours. If you confess your sins, turn away from them, and trust in Jesus, you will never have to worry about God’s judgment. Instead, you’ll discover the depths of His mercy, grace, and love.

"Folks, it's all beginning to unravel. America is in more danger of falling than at any time in its history. But I believe Bible prophecy predicts this very decline. From this point on, we believers have to get serious. We are going to face discouragement, disillusionment and, most certainly, persecution in the time between now and the Rapture. But don't be discouraged or disillusioned. The coming turmoil will provide us unrivaled opportunities to share the good news of the Gospel. So be ready to share your faith and your hope with those who need Christ. We still have time to reap a great harvest of souls for God's kingdom!" - Hal Lindsey
